Digital dental modeling
Embodiments are provided for digital dental modeling. One method embodiment includes receiving a three-dimensional data set including a first jaw and a second jaw of a three-dimensional digital dental model and receiving a two-dimensional data set corresponding to at least a portion of the first jaw and the second jaw. The method includes mapping two-dimensional data of the two-dimensional data set to the three-dimensional digital dental model by transforming a coordinate system of the two-dimensional data to a coordinate system of the three-dimensional data set. The method includes positioning the first jaw with respect to the second jaw based on the two-dimensional data mapped to the three-dimensional data set. The method includes using at least a portion of the two-dimensional data mapped to the three-dimensional data set as a target of movement of the first jaw with respect to the second jaw in the three-dimensional digital dental model.
METHOD FOR ALIGNING DIGITAL REPRESENTATIONS OF A PATIENT'S JAWS
A method of aligning two 3D digital representations of at least a part of each of the upper and lower jaw of a patient, the method including segmenting the 3D digital representations to determine the shape and position of each of the patient's teeth in each of the 3D digital representations; and using a set of known anatomical concepts to constrain the fit of the two 3D digital representations to get a preliminary fit.
Therapeutic tooth bud ablation
Ablation probe tips (108, 148, 320, 360) and physical and virtual stents (110) for use in tooth bud ablation procedures that result in tooth agenesis as well as tooth bud ablation methods are described herein.
Systems and methods for personalized oral irrigation
Described herein are systems and methods for providing personalized oral irrigation. One variation of a system for personalized oral irrigation comprises a fluid reservoir and a customized oral insert in fluid communication with the fluid reservoir. The oral insert comprises an arrangement of fluid openings positioned based on the individual oral or dental structures of a user's teeth to provide a customized fluid flow over the user's teeth. Also described herein are methods for generating an arrangement of fluid openings in a customized oral insert.
REMOVABLE DENTAL APPLIANCES INCLUDING BENDABLE FLAPS AND ARCUATE MEMBERS
The invention relates to a removable dental appliance comprising an appliance body configured to at least partially surround a plurality of teeth of a patient. The appliance body defines a shell configured to receive a tooth of the plurality of teeth in an initial position and a bendable flap integrally formed with the appliance body to extend from a hinge axis of the shell. The bendable flap defines a boundary region extending from a first end of the hinge axis around the bendable flap to a second end of the hinge axis and including an arcuate member. In one specific embodiment, the arcuate member comprises a spring bellows extending away from a plane of the shell. The bendable flap and the arcuate member are configured to apply a force to the tooth to cause movement of the tooth toward a desired position when the removable dental appliance is worn by the patient.
VIRTUAL ARTICULATION MODEL FOR DENTAL TREATMENT
The invention relates to a method for determining whether a tooth is correctly shaped and oriented to avoid interference with another tooth using virtual articulation. The method comprises a) receiving data indicative of a virtual dentition of an oral cavity of a patient by a computing device, the data indicative of the virtual dentition including data indicative of at least one of a virtual mandibular arch representing a mandibular arch of the patient or a virtual maxillary arch representing a maxillary arch of the patient; b) receiving data indicating a selected point on the virtual dentition of the oral cavity; and c) determining a tangent vector indicating a direction of motion of the selected point and determining whether the orientation of a tooth of the virtual dentition or the shape of the tooth is correctly shaped and oriented based on the determined tangent vector, wherein the tangent vector is based on a rotational axis of the virtual mandibular arch.
Digital custom denture impression tray
The present invention is a digital custom denture impression tray that includes an upper U-shaped plate to measure the shape of a patient's upper gum having missing teeth and normal teeth arranged therein; a lower U-shaped plate to measure the shape of the patient's lower gum having missing teeth and normal teeth arranged therein; a height adjustment unit disposed on the upper plate for measuring the height of the denture to be implanted and structured to adjust horizontality and height of the upper plate and the lower plate; a screw nut attached to the height adjustment unit having a threaded hole at a predetermined depth; a screw bolt having a threaded surface to adjust height by being inserted in the threaded hole from under the screw nut; an indicator teeth disposed on the front center of the upper plate for recording centric relation and guiding the upper plate toward the lower plate; a front corresponding cooperation spot provided on the lower plate for receiving the indicator teeth thereon; and a rear corresponding cooperation spot provided on the lower plate for receiving the screw bolt thereon.
Systems and methods for determining an orthodontic treatment
A method and a system for planning an orthodontic treatment are provided. The method comprises: acquiring an arch form 3D digital model including a representation of the given tooth in a current position thereof within a subject's gingiva; determining an initial crown reference point and an initial root reference point; obtaining a target position of the given tooth within the arch form 3D digital model; determining a number of steps for the given tooth to displace from the current position to the target position thereof in the course of the orthodontic treatment; and storing data indicative of the number of steps associated with the given tooth for use in the planning the orthodontic treatment.
ORAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM AND METHOD
The present invention provides an oral drug delivery system (“ODDS”) and methods of using and making the same. The ODDS comprises a tray fitted to at least some or all teeth of a patient's upper or lower arch for the application of medications to the patient in need of a medication. The tray is formed from a resilient elastomeric material molded to substantially conform to the teeth and gum tissue, the tray having at least one cavity formed to conform to the teeth, one or more raised ridges surrounding the cavity corresponding to a location along the patient's gum line, and one or more negative grooves configured to receive a medication by the raised ridges, and the negative grooves surrounding the cavity corresponding to an intersection of the teeth and gum line. A tooth structure medication can be included in the cavity apart from the one or more negative grooves.
