The substrate transfer apparatus includes: a substrate conveyance assembly disposed between a mechanical arm and a wafer stage, the substrate conveyance assembly including a substrate loading conveyor and a substrate unloading conveyor parallelly arranged in a first direction, each of the substrate loading conveyor and the substrate unloading conveyor configured for transferring a substrate between the wafer stage and the mechanical arm along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; an integral frame; and a transition air suspension assembly fixed to the integral frame at the end thereof proximal to the wafer stage, the transition air suspension assembly being able to engage with either of the substrate loading conveyor and the substrate unloading conveyor for producing an air film to levitate the substrate during the conveyance of the substrate by the substrate loading conveyor or the substrate unloading conveyor.

A break-out process includes scoring a cutting line in the surface of the glass using a cutting tool, which cutting line delimits the outer contour of the inner shape and the inner contour of a peripheral shape; bringing the peripheral shape of the glass sheet into contact with a bearing system along the outer contour of the inner shape; the use of a deformation system for deforming one of the inner shape and of the peripheral shape by convex bending toward the side opposite the cutting line. The differential deformation between the inner shape and the peripheral shape is sufficient to break out the inner shape along the cutting line and create the distance needed for the contactless extraction of the inner shape relative to the peripheral shape. The extraction is carried out while maintaining the convex bending.

A vacuum plate which may be used in a system in which sheet material articles are handled by a vacuum plate. The vacuum plate comprises a first wall, a plurality of bores in the first wall, and at least one air outlet for connection to a source of vacuum pressure for applying a vacuum pressure to the bores. The first wall provides, in use, a vacuum lifting surface for pulling and holding the sheet material article to the vacuum surface when vacuum pressure is applied to the bores. Each bore comprises a flared opening terminating at the vacuum surface for admitting air pulled through the bore by the applied vacuum pressure, and opposite this opening, an exit for the air pulled through the bore, this exit being surrounded by a rim that extends above a surrounding surface of the second side of the first wall.
