The controller is configured: to determine a target position of the guide member and a permissible position in accordance with the target position; to control a rotation amount of the supporting member and/or a rotation amount of the conveyance roller; to determine whether or not a position of the guide member exceeds the permissible position; and to perform a notification of a conveying error of the sheet.

A medium conveying apparatus conveyable a passport includes a guide pair including a first guide, and a second guide located so as to sandwich a medium conveyance path together with the first guide, to regulate a vertical direction of the medium conveyance path, a light emitting element located on an outside of the medium conveyance path with one of the first guide or the second guide in between to detect the medium, a light receiving element located on an outside of the medium conveyance path with the first guide in between, to receive a light emitted by the light emitting element, and an opening provided in the first guide, to pass the light emitted from the light emitting element. A reflectivity in a periphery of the opening of the first guide is 55% or less.

A medium conveying apparatus includes a moving mechanism to move the set guide, a guide pair including a first guide having a first opening and a second opening, and a second guide to regulate a vertical direction of the medium conveyance path, a light emitting element and a light receiving element located on an outside of the medium conveyance path with the first guide in between, and on the downstream side of the first opening and the second opening so as to be apart from the moving mechanism by a predetermined distance or more in the medium conveying direction, a first light guide which is bent so as to guide a light emitted from the light emitting element to the first opening, and a second light guide which is bent so as to guide the light incident from the second opening to the light receiving element.

A sheet conveying apparatus includes a pair of regulating units both of which are movable in a width direction in a document placement unit, a detection processing unit that detects a separation distance between the pair of regulating units, a restriction processing unit that restricts execution of a specific process of conveying a document when a difference between the separation distance detected at a specific timing and a reference distance exceeds a threshold value, and a cancellation processing unit that cancels the restriction on execution of the specific process when the separation distance detected after the restriction on execution of the specific process by the restriction processing unit is the same as the separation distance detected before the detection timing of the separation distance and on or after the specific timing.

A sheet conveying apparatus includes a pair of regulating units both of which are movable in a width direction in a document placement unit, a detection processing unit that detects a separation distance between the pair of regulating units, a restriction processing unit that restricts execution of a specific process of conveying a document when a difference between the separation distance detected at a specific timing and a reference distance exceeds a threshold value, and a cancellation processing unit that cancels the restriction on execution of the specific process when the separation distance detected after the restriction on execution of the specific process by the restriction processing unit is the same as the separation distance detected before the detection timing of the separation distance and on or after the specific timing.

A veneer sheet feed device for multistage veneer sheet dryer is provided between an auto feeder including a carry-in conveyor and a roll dryer (veneer sheet dryer). An image forming apparatus, having a housing including a first side wall and a second side wall, a sheet tray movable in a first direction, an image forming device to form an image on a sheet, and a chute movable in a second direction, is provided. The sheet tray has a first outer frame, having a first dent denting downward. The chute has a second outer frame. The second outer frame has a second dent denting upward and forming an opening together with the first dent and a handle extending downward from the second dent. At least one of the first outer frame and the second outer frame has a wall shielding a part of the opening at a position upstream from the handle in the second direction.

An image forming apparatus, having a housing including a first side wall and a second side wall, a sheet tray movable in a first direction, an image forming device to form an image on a sheet, and a chute movable in a second direction, is provided. The sheet tray has a first outer frame, having a first dent denting downward. The chute has a second outer frame. The second outer frame has a second dent denting upward and forming an opening together with the first dent and a handle extending downward from the second dent. At least one of the first outer frame and the second outer frame has a wall shielding a part of the opening at a position upstream from the handle in the second direction.
