A medium conveying apparatus includes a conveying roller to convey a medium, an overlap detection sensor, a processor to detect an overlap portion in which it is determined that an overlap has occurred on the medium based on a detection output by the overlap detection sensor for the medium conveyed by the conveying roller, calculate an overlap length where the overlap portion is continuous based on a detection result of the overlap portion, determine whether a multi-feed has occurred based on the overlap length, and execute an abnormal processing for the multi-feed based on a determination result of the multi-feed. The processor determines that a first overlap portion and a second overlap portion are continuous when a distance between the first overlap portion and the second overlap portion is within a predetermined distance in calculating the overlap length.

The processor changes the threshold according to the size.

The processor determines that a medium is a bound medium when a lift of a medium is detected by the lift sensor in a first predetermined period after detection of a front edge of a medium in a conveying direction by the arrival detection sensor, and executes abnormality processing when a medium is determined to be a bound medium.

Document feeder
The document feeder includes a lift plate, a pickup roller, a lift motor, a retard roller, and a control unit. In a manual feed mode, the control unit rotates the retard roller to feed a document in a document conveyance direction. Further, the control unit causes the lift motor to start lowering the lift plate while the pickup roller is feeding a document after starting to rotate the pickup roller. When there is a document set on the lift plate at the time when the pickup roller stops, the control unit automatically resumes the feeding in the manual feed mode.
Document conveying device and method of controlling a document conveying device
A controller starts sheet feeding at a primary sheet feeding speed, then momentarily stops a sheet feeding rotary member, and thereafter starts secondary sheet feeding. When the secondary sheet feeding speed equals a first speed, the controller momentarily stops the sheet feeding rotary member such that the leading end of a document sheet stops at a first stop position. When the secondary sheet feeding speed equals a second speed, the controller momentarily stops the sheet feeding rotary member such that the leading end of a document sheet stops at a second stop position. The second stop position is located downstream of the first stop position in the document conveying direction.
Document conveying device and method of controlling a document conveying device
A controller starts sheet feeding at a primary sheet feeding speed, then momentarily stops a sheet feeding rotary member, and thereafter starts secondary sheet feeding. When the secondary sheet feeding speed equals a first speed, the controller momentarily stops the sheet feeding rotary member such that the leading end of a document sheet stops at a first stop position. When the secondary sheet feeding speed equals a second speed, the controller momentarily stops the sheet feeding rotary member such that the leading end of a document sheet stops at a second stop position. The second stop position is located downstream of the first stop position in the document conveying direction.
