A post-processing unit includes a stapler, a driving section, and a controller. The stapler is moved in a Y direction and executes a stapling process on a paper sheet. The driving section moves the stapler in the Y direction. The controller controls an operation of the stapler and an operation of the driving section. The controller executes first control to supply a set current or a set voltage to the driving section, second control to supply, to the driving section, the same supply current as the set current or the same supply voltage as the set voltage, and third control to stop the supply of the supply current or the supply voltage. When the stapler executes the stapling process a plurality of times, the controller repeatedly executes the second control and the third control and causes the stapler to execute the stapling process during the execution of the second control.

Document conveyance device, document reading device and image forming apparatus

A document conveyance device includes a sheet feeding tray, a conveyance mechanism, a discharge tray, a document pressing member and a supporting mechanism. The document pressing member comes into contact with an upper face of the document discharged from a conveyance path and presses the document downward. The supporting mechanism is configured to be provided in the sheet feeding tray, to support the document pressing member, to allow a shifting of the document pressing member according to an operation for shifting the document pressing member in a discharge direction of the document or an opposite direction to the discharge direction and to inhibit the shifting of the document pressing member against a force applied to the document pressing member by the discharged document.

There is described a sheet numbering process involving feeding of individual sheets (S) in succession, which individual sheets (S) each carry a plurality of imprints (P) that are arranged in a matrix of rows and columns, and providing unique serial numbers to multiple ones of the plurality of imprints (P) carried by the individual sheets (S). The sheet numbering process comprises numbering of at least some of the individual sheets (S), wherein numbering of the individual sheets (S) is selectively commutable between a first numbering scheme (N1) and at least a second numbering scheme (N2; N2′; N*), different from the first numbering scheme (N1), without interruption of the numbering process. The first numbering scheme (N1) involves providing all imprints (P) of a first subset (S.sup.0) of individual sheets (S) with a unique serial number (SN1) of the first numbering scheme (N1). The second numbering scheme (N2; N2′; N*) involves providing all or part of the imprints (P) of a second subset (S′; S*) of individual sheets (S) with a unique serial number (SN2; SN2′; SN*) of the second numbering scheme (N2; N2′; N*). The first subset (S.sup.0) of individual sheets (S) and the second subset (S′; S*) of individual sheets are sorted after numbering in dependence of the numbering scheme (N1; N2; N2′; N*). Also described is a sheet-processing machine for carrying out the aforementioned sheet numbering process.
