The relay device connects the main body to the feeder. The main body is placed on a placement surface. The relay device includes a conveyance unit and a casing which houses the conveyance unit. The conveyance unit conveys the sheet fed from the feeder to the main body and rotates relative to the casing with an axis as a pivot thereof. The axis extends in a cross direction intersecting with the placement surface.

A sheet conveying device includes a first roller, a second roller, and a controller. The first roller is configured to rotate in a forward direction for sheet conveyance along a sheet conveying direction. The second roller is disposed downstream with respect to the first roller in the sheet conveying direction and configured to rotate in a forward direction along the sheet conveying direction and in a reverse direction. The controller is configured to control the second roller to rotate in the reverse direction at a timing when a leading end of a sheet that is nipped and conveyed by the first roller reaches a nip of the second roller.

An image reading apparatus includes a feeding roller that includes a first roller and a second roller provided at an interval in a width direction intersecting a medium feeding direction, and feeds a sheet from a placing section; and a skew detection section that detects skew of the sheet fed from the feeding roller. Skew is corrected by giving a difference between a rotation speed of the first roller and a rotation speed of the second roller with respect to at least one of the relevant sheet detected by the skew detection section and subsequent sheets fed following the relevant sheet based on a skew amount in the sheet.

A sheet transport device includes a pair of movable transport rollers capable of transporting a sheet while holding the sheet and moving in an axial direction crossing a transportation direction; pairs of first transport rollers upstream from the pair of movable transport rollers in the transportation direction while being spaced apart from each other to transport the sheet while holding the sheet; and pairs of transport guides to define sheet transport spaces between the pair of movable transport rollers and the pairs of first transport rollers and between the pairs of first transport rollers. When the pair of movable transport rollers is to be moved in the axial direction, at least one pair of first transport rollers transports the sheet while bending the sheet in the transport space by producing a difference in transport rate within a portion of a section upstream from the pair of movable transport rollers.

A medium transport device include: an inclination corrector including a first inclination correction member and a second inclination correction member disposed away from each other in a width direction of a medium, the first inclination correction member and the second inclination correction member being individually drivable during transport of the medium, the inclination corrector being configured to correct an inclination of the medium relative to a transport direction of the medium by causing a difference in the transport of the medium between the first inclination correction member and the second inclination correction member; and a medium transporter disposed on a downstream side of the inclination corrector in the transport direction and configured to transport the medium, the medium transporter including a pair of medium transport members disposed across the medium in a thickness direction of the medium, the medium transport members being movable between a transport position where the medium transport members nip and transport the medium and a non-nipping position where a nip of the medium is canceled. During correction of the inclination of the medium by the inclination corrector, the medium transporter is moved to the non-nipping position.

When the pair of movable transport rollers is to be moved in the axial direction, first transport rollers in at least one of the pairs of first transport rollers are separated not to hold at least part of a portion of the transported sheet located upstream from the pair of movable transport rollers.

Edge sensing apparatus in automated transaction machine

A sensing apparatus can be configured to detect an edge of a paper that is received by an automated transaction machine (ATM). The paper can move along a path located inside the ATM, the path having opposite first and second sides. The sensing apparatus can include a light emitter and a light detector on the first side of the path, with the light emitter positioned so that it can emit light across the path to the second side. The light detector can be configured to detect light from the light emitter and can emit a signal corresponding to an amount of detected light. The sensing apparatus can also include a control circuit that can control a flow of power to the light emitter, and the control circuit can also receive the signal emitted by the sensor.
