ACTIVE REGISTRATION SYSTEM UTILIZING FORCED AIR FOR EDGE REGISTRATION
A media handling assembly contains a transport path for driving a document sheet downstream in a process direction. A first side edge extends lengthwise along the process direction. A registration guide edge extends lengthwise along the process direction and is situated opposite the first side edge. The media handling assembly includes at least one nozzle that is arranged proximate the first side edge. The at least one nozzle selectively discharges an airstream transverse the process direction towards the registration guide edge. The airstream drives the sheet against the registration edge guide for side registering and deskewing of the sheet.
Image recording apparatus
An image recording apparatus includes a recording section which is provided over a transport passage for transporting a sheet in a transport direction and which has nozzles for discharging an ink onto the sheet; a platen which is provided under the recording section with the transport passage intervening therebetween and which has a plurality of ribs provided to support the sheet while being separated from each other in a widthwise direction of the transport passage perpendicular to the transport direction, the respective ribs protruding upwardly and extending in the transport direction; and a plurality of holding members which are provided to be positioned between the plurality of ribs in the widthwise direction of the transport passage over the platen on an upstream side in the transport direction from the nozzles and which abut against an upper surface of the sheet and press the sheet toward the platen.

Sheet-supply tray
A sheet-supply tray device for use with an image recording apparatus, includes a lower sheet-supply tray and an upper sheet-supply tray. The upper sheet-supply tray includes a main body, a leading-end stopper, a trailing-end stopper and a side-end stopper. The main body includes a support surface that supports a recording sheet. The leading-end stopper is fixed on the main body and stops a leading end of the recording sheet. The trailing-end stopper includes a trailing-end contact surface having a trailing-end protrusion extending over an upper surface of a trailing-end portion of the recording sheet toward the leading-end stopper. The trailing-end contact surface contacts a trailing end of the recording sheet. The side-end stopper includes a side-end contact surface that contacts a side end of the recording sheet. The side-end contact surface has at least one side-end protrusion extending over an upper surface of a side-end portion of the recording sheet.

MEDIA SIZE DETECTOR
In one example, a media size detector includes a button coupled to a spring of a housing to interact with a media size adjuster of a media tray, a first side of a lever to receive pressure from the spring when the button is depressed by the media size adjuster, and a second side of the lever to apply pressure to activate or deactivate a switch coupled to a printed circuit assembly when the first side of the lever receives pressure from the spring.
GUIDING TRAY FOR DOCUMENT CONVEYING APPARATUS
The document conveying apparatus includes a body, a document tray, a guiding tray, a first support member that supports the document tray movably between a open position where a document is placed on the first document stacking face, and a close position where the document tray is closed, and a second support member that supports the guiding tray. The second support member positions the guiding tray at a first distance from the document tray, when the document tray is at the open position. The second support member positions the guiding tray at a second distance from the document tray, when the document tray is at the close position. The second distance is smaller than the first distance.

MEDIUM CONVEYING APPARATUS
A medium conveying apparatus includes: a housing having an engaged portion and a guide surface; a placement tray having an engaging portion and a placement surface; and a side guide mounted on the placement surface and protruding downstream beyond the placement tray in a medium conveying direction to restrict a medium in a width direction. The engaged portion restricts entry or removal of the engaging portion when the placement surface forms a first angle with the guide surface, and allows entry or removal of the engaging portion when the placement surface forms a second angle different from the first angle with the guide surface in attachment of the placement tray to the housing or detachment of the placement tray from the housing. A downstream end of the side guide in the conveying direction does not intersect with the guide surface as viewed from the width direction when the placement surface forms the second angle.
