The paper skew judging module disposed to the lower cover, has an infrared light emitter, an infrared light receiver, a cantilever arm rotatably assembled to the lower cover, a sensing roller pivotally connected with the cantilever arm, and a lens. The infrared light emitter is mounted to the lower cover. The infrared light receiver is mounted to the lower cover and is disposed opposite to the infrared light emitter. The lens is fastened to the cantilever arm, and disposed between the infrared light emitter and the infrared light receiver. The lens have different photopermeabilities.

A sheet feeding device includes a sheet supporting unit, a sheet feeding unit, and a regulating member. The regulating member includes a supporting surface portion on which the sheet is placed, and a regulation surface portion provided continuously with the supporting surface portion and configured to regulate the position of the sheet in a width direction. The supporting surface portion includes a supporting surface color indicating portion including an end portion of the supporting surface portion on a side of the regulation surface portion and having a color with brightness of 7 or less in the Munsell color system. The regulation surface portion includes a regulation surface color indicating portion including an end portion of the regulation surface portion on a side of the supporting surface portion and having a color with brightness higher than the brightness of the supporting surface color indicating portion.

Further, the guide portion guides the sheet such that a number of deflection nodes changes according to stiffness of the sheet.

A medium conveying apparatus includes a first roller to convey a medium, a movement mechanism to move the first roller between a first position in contact with the medium and a second position spaced apart from the medium, a second roller located on a downstream side of the first roller in a medium conveying direction to convey the medium, and a processor to detect a skew of the conveyed medium, and control the movement mechanism to move the first roller to the second position, and correct the skew of the medium using the second roller when the skew of the medium is detected.

The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for detecting registration features. The apparatuses and methods may utilize sensors in combination with cylindrical optics that blurs the image sampling area in the cross direction, while maintaining focus in the machine direction. The blurring may create an averaging or blending effect of the hue values across the sampled area. The sensors may include red, green, blue (RGB) analog outputs that can characterize sensed registration features by a unique sequence that can be compared with a reference sequence. In turn, the substrate speed and/or tension can be adjusted base on the comparison to control the relative placement of advancing substrates and discrete components in converting lines.
