SHEET CONVEYING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS INCORPORATING THE SHEET CONVEYING DEVICE

A sheet conveying device, which is included in an image forming apparatus, includes a sheet holding roller to move while holding a sheet, a detector to perform a primary detection to detect a sheet position before the sheet holding roller holds the sheet and a secondary detection to detect a sheet position downstream from the sheet position detected by the primary detection, and a controller configured to cause the sheet holding roller to perform a first drive to move the sheet holding roller in at least one direction of a width direction of the sheet and a rotation direction in a sheet conveying surface based on a result of the primary detection and a second drive to move the sheet holding roller opposite to the at least one direction of the first drive, based on a result of the secondary detection.

Ejecting damaged/deformed media

A deskew module of a valuable media depository is selectively controlled ejection processing. Upon detection of a jammed item of media within the deskew module, angled drives are activated to lift a jammed corner of the item off a track base of the deskew module and free the item's jammed corner. Next, straight drives are activated to eject the item from the deskew module.

Banknote alignment system for banknote validator

A banknote drive arrangement adjacent a banknote inlet repositions and drives a banknote into a banknote processing pathway for validation. The drive arrangement includes two drive rollers preferably spaced either side of a longitudinal axis of the pathway and adjacent to the banknote inlet. Each drive roller is separately controlled to allow different rotational speeds thereof (and forward and rearward movement Of a banknote) to allow shifting of a received end portion of a banknote before receiving the entire length of the banknote. This arrangement is preferably used with a sensing arrangement for sensing misalignment of an inserted banknote and if sensed, using the different rotational speeds to correct misalignment and preferably center a banknote in the processing pathway.
