Provided is a sheet material end detection mechanism including: a sheet material information part indicating information on a sheet material wound around a core member in which a light passing part is formed; a reader configured to optically read the sheet material information part; and a detection unit configured to detect that the sheet material is used up. A forming part is attached to an outer surface of the core member and an inner surface of the sheet material. The sheet material information part is formed in a portion of the forming part corresponding to the light passing part. The detection unit detects that the sheet material is present when a read signal of the sheet material information part read by the reader is received and that the sheet material is used up when the read signal disappears.

SHEET BINDING DEVICE AND SHEET BINDING METHOD
A sheet binding device includes a sheet shifting unit, a tape cutter, and a tape attachment unit. The sheet shifting unit has a guide and is configured to stack multiple sheets on the guide with edge portions that are shifted from each other to form a sheet bundle. The tape cutter cuts tape with a target length that is varied in accordance with a thickness of the sheet bundle. The tape attachment unit is configured to attach the cut tape having the target length to an edge portion of the sheet bundle.
METHODS FOR DETERMINING AN AMOUNT OF REMAINING PRINT MEDIA IN A PRINTER
Printers and methods are provided for determining an amount of remaining print media in an operating printer. Waveform signal is received from encoder wheel having number (n) of sectors and proximate optical sensor. Waveform signal represents number of sectors (m) that, during measurement time (t), pass by optical sensor as encoder wheel rotates. If media encoder wheel, in response to receiving waveform signal, processor calculates length of remaining print media in media roll at instant time t2. If ribbon encoder wheel, in response to receiving waveform signal, processor at least one of calculates length of remaining ribbon in ribbon roll at instant time t2 or extrapolates the length of the remaining print media from a plurality of data points defining an interpolation equation.

The conveyance unit is positioned between the film roll support unit and the bag making unit. The conveyance unit feeds the film to the bag making unit. The light emitting component illuminates, from the direction of the front side of the film, the film positioned between the film roll support unit and the conveyance unit.

A printer for label printing includes a cutter to cut a continuous label after printing at a position inside of the surface with respect to the outer case of the printer. A separation sensor is disposed between the cutter and the thermal head. A sheet detection sensor is disposed downstream of the cutter in the feeding direction. The sensors are mounted in two stages on a common circuit board. The circuit board is disposed vertically along the feeding direction of the continuous label within the region where a cover-open button to open an opening and closing cover of the printer is disposed.

A material feeding apparatus includes a rolling shaft, a sensor, and a control unit. A material roll is disposed on the rolling shaft, and the material feeding apparatus is configured to rotate the rolling shaft to convey a material belt in the material roll. The sensor is configured to sense material roll information and send the material roll information to the control unit. The control unit is configured to control a rotation status of the rolling shaft based on the material roll information.
