A media guide is provided for use in printer. Media guide includes main body portion having internal bore configured to be disposed around media spindle and guide member connected to main body portion. Guide member is configured to extend outwardly from main body portion to extended position and to retract toward main body portion to collapsed position. Method for using media guide is also provided. Media guide is disposed on media spindle such that media spindle extends through internal bore of main body portion and is positioned and locked at selected position along length of media spindle. When media roll is disposed on media spindle, guide member is extended to extended position. When media roll is configured to be one of loaded onto or unloaded from media spindle, guide member is retracted to collapsed position.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body, an image forming portion, a sheet feeding port, a bypass tray, a rotation support, and a temporary retainer. The image forming portion is disposed in the apparatus body to form an image on a recording medium. The sheet feeding port is disposed upstream from the image forming portion of the apparatus body in a sheet feeding direction. The bypass tray is disposed to be storable in the apparatus body. The bypass tray loads the recording medium to be fed toward the sheet feeding port. The rotation support supports the bypass tray. The temporary retainer positions the bypass tray both in a vertical direction relative to the sheet feeding port and in a perpendicular direction perpendicular to the sheet feeding direction. The temporary retainer temporarily retains the bypass tray.

A photo interrupter unit includes a photo interrupter and a supporting portion configured to support the photo interrupter detachably. The supporting portion includes a mounting surface on which the photo interrupter is mounted, a hole portion defining a hole into which the claw portion is inserted, provided in the mounting surface and configured to engage with the claw portion, and a projection projecting from the mounting surface, and configured to regulate a position of the photo interrupter in a deforming direction in which the claw portion is elastically deformable in a state where the claw portion and the hole portion are engaged.

There is provided a sheet tray including: a first tray; a second tray supported by the first tray; and a third tray supported by the second tray. The second tray has a first engaging section engageable with the first tray at a second position; the third tray has a second engaging section contactable with the second tray, in a drawing direction from a first position toward the second position, at a fifth position between a third and a fourth position, and engageable with the second tray at the fourth position. The second engaging section is configured to be elastically deformable to be movable in a releasing direction in which the contact between the second engaging section and the second tray is released. The second and third trays are moved integrally in the drawing direction in a state that the second engaging section makes contact with the second tray.

By the pressed portions abutting on the pressing portions, the movable guide is pushed up by the sheet feed cassette, and the movable guide is positioned with respect to the fixed guide. The pressing portion provided on another side of the sheet feed cassette in the sheet width direction includes an adjusting mechanism that adjusts pressing force against the pressed portion provided on another side of the movable guide in the sheet width direction to enable adjustment of pressure abutment force between the conveyance rollers.

The first state is a state for placing the sheet on the support surface.
