Dunnage supply daisy chain stabilizer

A rolled sheet-material supply handling-system that comprises a drawing device that can be configured to draw sheet material from a supply station and a stabilizer at the supply station. The stabilizer can define a generally tubular roll-receiving space in which a roll of the sheet material can be received and can have a support surface that can define an axial opening leading from the roll-receiving space to receive the sheet material drawn therefrom by the drawing device. The support surface can be sufficiently extensive to stabilize the outer layer of a roll against collapsing when the remainder of the roll has been extracted from the axial opening.

Slit Paper Method of Expansion, Shipment and Expansion Devices

An expansion device includes an unexpended slit sheet roll that is wound on a paper core that is wider than the slit sheet paper. The paper core is placed into a yoke that holds the paper in position on each side of the unexpended slit sheet material. An adjustable downward pressure is exerted on the paper core and the paper core exerts pressure on the yoke. As the paper is pulled, this downward pressure creates the friction required to enable the unexpended slit sheet to be unwind and fed while simultaneously expanding. A blank sheet is formed into a box that stabilizes slit paper sheet wound around a core member.

Automated Packaging Material Crumpler

A crumpling apparatus including a frame, a funnel coupled to the frame, the funnel having a first opening and a second opening, the first opening being larger than the second opening, at least one mount located proximate to the first opening, the mount being configured to support a roll of packing material, and a drive device coupled to the frame proximate to the second opening of the funnel. The drive device pulls packing material through the funnel. The funnel further includes at least one sidewall defining a cross section, the cross section being larger near the first opening and smaller near the second opening. The at least one sidewall crumples the packing material as is moves from the first opening to the second opening.

CENTER-FED DUNNAGE SYSTEM FEED AND CUTTER

A dunnage system may include a converting station including a converter configured for pulling in a stream of sheet material and converting the material into dunnage, and an inlet guide having an inlet surface that is coiled such that first and second ends of the inlet surface are discontinuous with each other to define a gap therebetween, the inlet surface configured to channel the sheet material into the converter. A cutter for a dunnage system may include a blade with first and second phases of serrations that are coextensive over at least a portion of the blade, the first phase providing cutting serrations for cutting the dunnage, and the second phase comprising ledges for focusing the cutting and preventing or reducing bunching of the dunnage towards a side of the blade. A method of converting dunnage may also be provided.

DUNNAGE CUT-ASSIST BIASING MEMBER

A conversion apparatus is provided herein. The conversion apparatus includes a cutting member having an edge configured for cutting the dunnage material. The conversion apparatus also includes a biasing member that is located adjacent to the cutting member such that the dunnage material passes between the biasing member and the cutting member. The biasing member operably contacts the dunnage material thereby biasing the dunnage material against the cutting member. The position of the biasing member relative to the cutting member is such that in response to the dunnage material being retracted back into the conversion apparatus the cutting member begins to sever the dunnage material, but in response to the dunnage material traveling in the dispensing direction the cutting member does not begin to sever the dunnage material due to the relative position.

Dunnage conversion machine and method with sequential stock roll storage and loading

A support for one or more rolls of sheet stock material includes a sloped support surface for supporting at least one roll, an operating stop toward a lower end of the support surface that defines an operating position at which a stock roll is held for paying out sheet stock material from the roll, and a holding stop. The holding stop extends above the support surface. The holding stop holds one or more rolls at a location spaced from the operating position, and is movable to allow a stock roll to move down the support surface, past the holding stop to the operating position.

EXPANDED SLIT SHEET VOID FILL DISPENSING SYSTEMS AND METHODS

The present invention provides void fill dispenser systems and methods that highly effectively enable the easy and usable creation of void fill with expanded slit sheet paper in a manner unattainable in the existing art. According to some illustrative embodiments, a void fill dispenser is provided that advantageously dispenses unique void fill in a manner not previously possible. In some embodiments, the void fill dispenser is made with a recyclable material, such as, e.g., a corrugated box made from paper. In some embodiments, the void fill dispenser is made with metal and/or other rigid and/or non-recyclable materials. In some embodiments, the void fill dispenser can comprise an automated metal dispensing system that dispenses expanded slit sheet paper particularly for void fill in an automated manner.

SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING INFLATED CUSHIONS

A system for providing a web of inflated containers includes a conveyance system, a detachment arm, and a controller. The conveyance system has an operative mode in which the web is advanced along a path of travel by counter-rotating members having a nip through which at least a portion of the web passes and (ii) an idle mode. The detachment arm is positioned beside the path of travel downstream from the conveyance system. The detachment arm has a separator end to engage the web in the path of travel. The controller is programmed to operatively control the conveyance system to move to: (i) the operative mode to advance the web by a predetermined number of containers and (ii) the idle mode in which a transverse detachment line of the web is aligned with the separator end of the detachment arm.

Paper Dunnage Apparatus

An apparatus for forming paper dunnage from rolled paper web includes a frame, a paper trough connected to the frame for supporting and retaining a paper roll, and a crumpling mechanism connected to the frame for drawing and receiving the paper web from the paper roll and crumpling the paper web to form paper dunnage. A paper guide is connected to the frame for receiving and guiding the paper web intermediate the paper trough and the crumpling mechanism. The paper guide is spring biased to maintain the paper web in tension between the paper roll and the crumpling mechanism. The paper guide can be a spring biased, pivotally mounted guide bar. Alternatively, the paper guide can be a cantilevered sheet of springy material having a free end that engages the paper web.
