A platform assembly includes a work platform including a platform floor and a safety rail extending from the platform floor to a rail height, and a primary sensor unit secured to the work platform and positioned adjacent one of the platform floor and the safety rail. The primary sensor unit is configured to monitor an area from the platform floor or from the safety rail to a space above the rail height and forward and aft of the work platform. The platform assembly enhances protection for an operator from sustained involuntary operation resulting in an impact with an obstruction or structure.

The first and second armature assemblies also connect the base with the third armature assembly. The actuation assembly is configured to lift the third armature assembly, which is guided by both the first armature assembly and second armature assembly. In response to the actuation assembly, the third armature assembly then forces the runway from the lowered position to the raised position, thereby lifting the vehicle.

Methods for attaching objects, including large, heaving objects, to downwardly facing surfaces are also disclosed.

The platform assembly is easily movable to an extended position for use by rotating the first frame section and the platform together until the platform is elevated and horizontal. The second frame section can then be rotated until it contacts the vehicle to further support the platform.

The lift actuator is pivotally attached to at least one of the scissor links to selectively raise and lower the platform along a lift path. The support column extends alongside the lift path and positioned adjacent to the platform. The locking actuator is fixed to an underside of the platform and includes a piston member extendable toward the support column to operatively connect the platform with the support column when the platform is raised at the second elevation so that the platform is supported by the support column in the fixed horizontal orientation.
