Apparatus for the Collection of Mammalian Inseminate
An apparatus for collecting seminal fluids, and specifically an artificial cervix for collecting seminal fluids for artificial insemination, is provided herein. The cervix comprises an elongated cylindrical member having either a closed end for receiving and storing ejaculated semen or an open end for allowing ejaculate to pass through, and an open end having a rim of a diameter sufficient to receive the penis of the animal. A handle can be detachably connected to said cylindrical member that allows users to hold the cervix in the correct position during collection of the animal's seminal fluids.
Method and apparatus to reduce the number of sperm used in artificial insemination of cattle
The present artificial insemination instrument may include a single use, hollow, elongate, metal pipette and a single disposable syringe that is not toxic to bovine sperm. The apparatus is used with any type of diluent that is not toxic to bovine sperm. In various embodiments, a technician may use non-sorted reduced sperm count semen straws from a bull stud, cut an unsorted semen straw into several pieces to use one piece at a time per cow, thaw one straw and mix the non-sorted semen with diluent, or use reduced sperm count semen straws filled with sex sorted semen by the manufacturer. A procedure is disclosed to use the artificial insemination instrument, reduced sperm count semen from any of the aforementioned sources, a non-toxic syringe, and a diluent to achieve conception rates at least as good as conventional prior art device and procedure conception rates.

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION DEVICE FOR ANIMALS
The artificial insemination device for animals comprises a cannula (1); an insertion tip (2) placed on one of the ends of the catheter (1), said insertion tip (2) having one or more holes (7); and a fixing element (3) placed on a cannula (1), wherein said fixing element (3) comprises a tubular portion (8), a first frustoconical portion (4) and a second frustoconical portion (5),
The artificial insemination device for animals according to the present invention enables, by not disturbing or hyperstimulating the animal, the cannula to reach the uterus and be fixed in the correct position in order to suitably perform post-cervical insemination in young sows.
Storage receptacle for straws for packaging animal semen and processing installation comprising such a receptacle
The invention relates to a storage receptacle (1) with a longitudinal opening (5) through which straws (2) for packing liquid-based substance are passed in a predetermined orientation of the straws, a housing (3) provided for the straws and configured to be inserted slidably in a cover (4) of the receptacle, the latter having an open configuration, in which the housing is partially inserted in the cover and the opening is free for the passage of the straws, and a closure configuration, in which the housing is inserted in the cover and the opening is closed by the cover in order to prohibit the passage of the straws. The housing has a parallelepipedal shape, a first front wall in which the opening is formed, a first bottom wall, two first longitudinal wails extending parallel to the opening, and two first side walls which each have two diagonals of a length less than or equal to the length of the straws.
Method for Increasing the Lifespan and Motility of Animal Serm Using an Inhibitor of Slo3 Potassium Channel
The invention relates to a method for increasing the lifespan of animal sperm comprising contacting said sperm with an inhibitor of Slo3 potassium channel. The invention also relates to a use of an inhibitor of Slo3 potassium channel, for increasing the lifespan of animal sperm or motility of capacitated animal sperm, comprising contacting an inhibitor of Slo3 potassium channel with said sperm. Moreover, the invention relates to an artificial insemination instrument for use in artificial insemination of an animal, comprising animal sperm in contact with an inhibitor of Slo3 potassium channel. The invention also relates to a method for artificially inseminating an animal using said artificial insemination instrument. Eventually, the invention relates to a method for increasing the fertility of an animal, comprising contacting sperm of said animal with an inhibitor of Slo3 potassium channel; then artificially inseminating said animal with said sperm.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INCREASING SPERM MOTILITY
A method for treating spermatozoa of an animal includes: irradiating the spermatozoa with light having wavelengths in a range of 390-420 nm at a fluence effective to increase motility of the spermatozoa by 75% or more.
Process and composition for low dose insemination
The present invention relates to a composition for use in low dose artificial insemination and to a process for artificial insemination of a female mammal using a dose of sperm originating from a male mammal of the same species that is significantly lower than necessary in the absence of the composition. The preferred female mammal is a sow (Sus scrofa), and preferably the composition is for use in artificial uterine insemination, and the process for artificial insemination preferably is uterine insemination.

Straw for the preservation of a predetermined dose of liquid-based substance
The straw includes a tube (11) extending between a first end (16) and a second end (17) and includes a gas-permeable but liquid-impermeable plug (12). The tube (11) is made of a thermochromic material that reversibly changes colour at a pre-set temperature threshold, by virtue of which colour change the tube (11) has a first visual appearance if the temperature thereof is below the preset threshold and a second visual appearance that is different from the first visual appearance if the temperature thereof is above the preset threshold.
