Prosthetic knee with swing assist

The present disclosure provides for a device and method of control for an artificial prosthetic knee. A prosthetic knee according to the present disclosure relies on strictly passive means of providing support during weight bearing and supplements a resistive swing-phase mechanism with a small powered actuator. This actuator adds power to the knee, exclusively during swing phase, to improve swing-phase behavior. In particular, the knee still relies on the resistive swing-phase mechanism to provide nominal swing-phase knee motion, but supplements that motion as needed with the small powered actuator.

Process Of Designing And Manufacturing A Prosthetic Socket And Virtual Adjustment Of A Prosthesis

The invention relates to a process of designing and manufacturing a tailored 3D printed or standard prosthetic socket for a residual limb with a 3D printed distal end, and a computer device for carrying out the process. The process includes obtaining a digital surface of the residual limb and information about the patient, possibly altering the digital surface of the residual limb, creating a shell of the prosthetic socket comprising the altered digital surface of the residual limb, virtually spatially arranging the prosthetic socket including virtual spatial translational or rotational movements of selected prosthetic parts and the prosthetic socket for optimal load transfer from a residual limb to the prosthesis, wherein the structural design of the prosthetic socket is based on the virtual axial adjustment of the prosthesis.

Novel Elastomeric Gel Liner
20230119790 · 2023-04-20 · ·

A method of making a thermoplastic gel prosthetic liner for use with a prosthetic assembly that acts as the interface between the residual limb of an amputee and the socket assembly. The prosthetic liner comprises an open proximal end, a closed distal end, and sidewalls comprising an inner layer of molded thermoplastic gel. The thermoplastic gel is molded over a mandrel that has been sandblasted using #36 grit and, optionally, #320 grit at 100 psi so as to form microcraters and reduce the coefficient of static friction.

11628073 · 2023-04-18 ·

The walking canister system and method are for manufacturing a prosthetic socket. The system includes a rigid canister, a suspension bladder positioned within the rigid canister, and an outer chamber wicking material arranged in an outer chamber defined between the suspension bladder and the rigid canister. A foam insert includes a contoured exterior surface configured to transfer pressure through to an interior surface thereof to produce consistent surface contact with a residual limb, of a walking patient, having casting material thereon. An inner chamber wicking material is arranged in an inner chamber defined between the foam insert and the suspension bladder. An outer chamber vacuum port is in fluid communication with the outer chamber, and an inner chamber vacuum port is in fluid communication with the inner chamber. An outer chamber suspension sleeve is configured to extend from the residual limb and over the rigid canister.

Breathable Residual-Limb Socket System

Breathable residual-limb system that admits air and allows sweat to evaporate from the surface of the residual limb. In an embodiment, the system comprises a liner sock to be worn on the residual limb, and comprising air-permeable textile forming a substantially cylindrical portion that is closed on a distal end and open on a proximal end and comprising an internal surface and an external surface. The liner sock further comprises a friction-interface material that covers only a portion of the internal surface of the air-permeable textile, such that, when worn on the residual limb, the friction-interface material contacts a surface of the residual limb, and an uncovered portion of the air-permeable textile which the friction-interface material does not cover allows air to pass between an external environment of the liner sock and the surface of the residual limb.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ORTHOSIS DESIGN

The present disclosure is related to systems and methods for orthosis design. The method includes obtaining a three-dimensional (3D) model associated with a subject.
