System and method for forming a foundation truss
11845649 · 2023-12-19 · ·

A system and method for forming a foundation truss for a box spring or mattress foundation frame includes a first truss rail assembly station having a series of block feeders, a top rail hopper and a filler strip hopper that received stacks of truss components such as blocks, top rails and filler strips and feed such truss components into stacked registration. The stacked truss components are moved into engagement with a series of staplers that secure the filler strips, top rails and blocks together to form first truss rail portions, which are then fed to a second truss rail assembly station where a bottom rail is automatically applied thereto.

An apparatus for upholstering a truss allows an operator to staple a fabric web to the truss, rotate the truss, further staple the semi-finished truss and cut the fabric web. The truss is fully upholstered after the end surfaces of the truss are wrapped up in fabric and the fabric stapled in place. The apparatus may accommodate different size trusses. A web of fabric is pulled around at least one roller in the apparatus by rotation of two vise mechanisms on opposite sides of the truss.

A cover layer (23) of a fleece material for an innerspring unit (20) comprising a plurality of pocketed springs (29) is manufactured by supplying at least two longitudinal fleece webs (24, 25), which extend substantially parallel in a longitudinal direction and are spaced from one another, and repeatedly attaching a transverse fleece web (26, 27), which extends between the longitudinal fleece webs (24, 25) in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, to the longitudinal fleece webs (24, 25). The transverse fleece web segments (26, 27) are attached to the longitudinal fleece webs (24, 25) such that they form together with the longitudinal fleece webs (24, 25) a framelike structure (21) serving as the cover layer (23).

In order to manufacture an innerspring unit (31) comprising pocketed springs and having an increased stability at its edge regions, in a first step, an innerspring main body (30) comprising a plurality of first strings (14) of pocketed springs is provided. In a subsequent second step, at least one second string (13c, 13d) of pocketed springs is attached to a lateral surface of the innerspring main body (30), so that the at least one second string (13c, 13d) of pocketed springs extends in a longitudinal direction of the innerspring main body (30). The springs (13) of the at least one second string (13c, 13d) of pocketed springs have a spring characteristic or a spring geometry different from the springs of the plurality of first strings of the innerspring main body (30). The at least one second string (13c, 13d) of pocketed springs forms together with the innerspring main body (30) the innerspring unit (31).

Methods and systems for no-glue pocketed spring unit construction. Rows of pocketed springs modules, comprising more than two pocketed springs surrounding a central hole, can be automatically loaded onto an assembler; pocketed spring-surrounded openings can be automatically aligned with welding phalanges; and probe/anvil welding pairs can be inserted into modules in different rows of modules, closed around polymer pocket fabric, and activated to weld rows of modules together without glue; without a user manually loading rows of modules onto the assembler.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING AN EDGE STRIP FOR A SEAT COVER

A device for producing an edge strip may have a supply unit with at least two openings for separately supplying an edge strip core and a material strip of a casing for the edge strip core. The material strip may be provided with a decorative element, an adapter unit, and a processing unit. The supply unit arranges the edge strip core on a surface side of the material strip which forms the inner face of the casing, and the adapter unit is designed to fold the material strip around the edge strip core. Free ends of the casing protrude from the edge strip core and lie one over the other, and the processing unit connects the free ends lying one over the other together. A method for producing an edge strip using such a device and to a seat cover with an edge strip is also included.
