A patient grasps a handle grip of a repositioning device. The patient may be on a bed or a couch, for example, and wishes to pull the injured limb up onto the bed or couch without having to bend over. The device has a shaft, a handle grip on a proximal end of the shaft and a hook on a distal end of the shaft. The patient secures the hook to something that is about the limb, such as a cast, brace, bandage, or the like. Once the hook is secured, the user pulls the device upwardly to raise the limb. Once the user has positioned the limb as desired, the hook is disengaged.

A shoulder brace includes a shoulder cuff that can be worn to cover the shoulder of a user, an upper arm cuff that can be worn to cover the elbow joint of the user, a belt that can secure the shoulder cuff to the shoulder of the user, and an actuator that is the McKibben artificial muscle which can optionally expand and contract in entire length. The actuator contains a main actuator to link the vicinity of the acromion on the shoulder cuff and a side face of the upper arm cuff across the shoulder joint, an anterior auxiliary actuator to link a front face of the shoulder cuff and a front face of the upper arm cuff across the shoulder joint, and a posterior auxiliary actuator to link a back face of the shoulder cuff and a back face of the upper arm cuff across the shoulder joint.

HEAD AND JAW IMMOBILIZATION DEVICE

Methods of immobilizing the head of a patient include heating a thermoplastic mask preform to a formable temperature, forming the thermoplastic mask over at least a mouth of the patient, and pushing a mouth receiving end of a bite piece into a portion of the thermoplastic mask preform that is positioned over the mouth of the patient, which moves the portion of the thermoplastic mask preform into the mouth of the patient. The methods also include allowing the thermoplastic mask preform to cool from the formable temperature, causing the portion of the thermoplastic mask moved into the mouth of the patient to harden.

Adjustable immobilizer apparatus and method for immobilizing a patient

Systems for immobilizing a patient are disclosed. The system includes at least one preform formed from a low melting temperature thermoplastic, the preform being configured to be formed to the anatomy of the patient, at least one frame coupled to the at least one preform, and at least one support configured to support the anatomy of the patient. The system also includes at least one lock mechanism coupled to at least one of the frame and the support and configured to couple the at least one frame to the at least one support, and at least one adjuster mechanism coupled to at least one of the at least one frame and the at least one support and configured to selectively adjust a distance between the at least one frame and the at least one support while the at least one frame is coupled to the at least one support.

PATIENT POSITIONING SYSTEM
