Fully regenerative distillation system for low-cost water desalination
A desalination device includes a sealed desalination chamber with two compartments, an evaporator space that contains saline water, and a condenser space that contains fresh water, a saline water distribution mechanism that directs the saline water into the evaporator space, a vapor compressor that directs a stream of pressurized freshwater vapor into the condenser space, and an integrated regenerative boundary between the evaporator space and the condenser space that has two sides, an evaporation surface and a condensation surface, enabling the pressurized freshwater vapor to condense on the condensation surface to generate freshwater, and where the latent heat of the condensation process transfers across the integrated regenerative boundary into the evaporator space and evaporates a portion of the saline water to produce freshwater vapor.

The device may further comprise a controller configured to govern rotation speed of the impeller with an impeller motor command based on a calibrated motor speed for the distillation device. The controller may be configured to determine an adjusted motor speed for a next use of the device and overwrite the calibrated motor speed with the adjusted motor speed.

The dispensing device is in fluid communication with the fluid vapor distillation apparatus and the product water from the fluid vapor distillation apparatus is dispensed by the dispensing device.
ENHANCING A BIOREFINERY WITH AN OPTIONAL VAPOR RECOMPRESSION UNIT WHILE MAINTAINING THE ABILITY TO OPERATE WITHOUT THE VAPOR RECOMPRESSION UNIT
Processes and systems are provided to compress vapors produced in distillation and recover the heat of condensation through vapor compression and to derive mechanical, thermal, and electrical energy from a combined heat and power system, while maintaining the plant's original ability to operate. The plant's existing distillation system, steam generation, and electrical demand determine the design basis for the retrofit system that is targeted at an optimized combination of energy usage, energy cost, and environmental impact. Vapor compression (by mechanical vapor recompression and/or thermal vapor recompression) minimizes the total energy usage. Optionally, combined heat and power provides a means of converting energy between fuel, electricity, and thermal energy in a manner that best complements plant requirements and energy economics and minimizes inefficiencies and energy losses.
Urea plant with stripper and stripping method
A method is disclosed for stripping in a stripper a urea synthesis solution received from a urea forming process wherein ammonia and CO2 are reacted under urea forming conditions. The shell space of the stripper comprises a continuous vertical zone.
METHOD FOR REMOVING INERT GAS FROM LIQUID AMMONIA
A method of removing inert gas dissolved in liquid ammonia involves evaporating, compressing, and then condensing the liquid ammonia together with the inert gas dissolved therein. Thereby, a product stream of warm liquid ammonia that has been freed of the inert gas is obtained, which is under elevated pressure relative to standard pressure and hence suitable for immediate use in methods in which pure liquid pressurized ammonia is required. If, by contrast, the ammonia is cooled first, for example, below the boiling temperature for ammonia and expanded to standard pressure to store it in tanks as liquid ammonia at low temperatures, it is necessary first to reheat and compress it for further processing operations. Thus the disclosed methods lead to significant energy savings.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR ELECTRIFYING, DECARBONIZING, AND REDUCING ENERGY DEMAND AND PROCESS CARBON INTENSITY IN INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES VIA INTEGRATED VAPOR COMPRESSION
This disclosure provides systems and methods that utilize integrated mechanical vapor or thermal vapor compression to upgrade process vapors and condense them to recover the heat of condensation across multiple processes, wherein the total process energy is reduced. Existing processes that are unable to recover the heat of condensation in vapors are integrated with mechanical or thermal compressors that raise vapor pressures and temperatures sufficient to permit reuse. Integrating multiple processes permits vapor upgrading that can selectively optimize energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, process economics, or a prioritized blend of such goals. Mechanical or thermal vapor compression also alters the type of energy required in industrial processes, favoring electro-mechanical energy which can be supplied from low-carbon, renewable sources rather than combustion of carbonaceous fuels.
WATER VAPOR DISTILLATION APPARATUS, METHOD AND SYSTEM
A fluid vapor distillation apparatus. The apparatus includes a source fluid input, and an evaporator condenser apparatus. The evaporator condenser apparatus includes a substantially cylindrical housing and a plurality of tubes in the housing. The source fluid input is fluidly connected to the evaporator condenser and the evaporator condenser transforms source fluid into steam and transforms compressed steam into product fluid. Also included in the fluid vapor distillation apparatus is a heat exchanger fluidly connected to the source fluid input and a product fluid output. The heat exchanger includes an outer tube and at least one inner tube. Also included in the fluid vapor distillation apparatus is a regenerative blower fluidly connected to the evaporator condenser. The regenerative blower compresses steam, and the compressed steam flows to the evaporative condenser where compressed steam is transformed into product fluid. The fluid vapor distillation apparatus also includes a control system.
Solar-powered continuous distillation assembly having efficient heat recovery
A distillation assembly which, with the aid of solar energy, continuously evaporates a feed liquor. The distillation assembly includes a container which contains the feed liquor, a container in which the distillate is collected, these containers being in thermal contact, and a compressor. The compressor compresses the vapor which is produced by boiling the feed liquor using the concentration of solar energy and/or using negative pressure, into the distillate container such that the vapor condenses there, and the evaporation enthalpy and thermal energy is returned to the feed liquor by the thermal contact.
