THERMAL SYSTEM
A thermal system includes a thermal control unit adapted to supply temperature controlled fluid to one or more thermal pads. The thermal pads may include an interior chamber for fluid circulation, an inlet and an outlet, and first and second temperature sensors positioned adjacent the inlet and outlet, respectively. Some pads include a valve adapted to control an amount of fluid flowing through one or more channels within the pad. The thermal control unit may include a controller that controls the fluid temperature based upon temperature readings from first and second temperature sensors positioned remotely from the thermal control unit. The thermal control unit may also include a valve that selectively controls the amount of fluid exiting the thermal control from one or more outlets based upon one or more temperature readings. The system may include one or more thermocouples with conductors placed on or in the thermal pads.
Warming device with provision for warming hands
A warming device includes a clinical garment with at least one convective apparatus supported on the inside of the garment. Slits are provided in the clinical garment which enables a patient to insert his or her hands inside the clinical garment to be warmed therein by operation of the convective apparatus.
Grounded pressure cooling
A pressurized garment has cuffs for encircling a human subject, each cuff having ports for cooling and grounding unit controlling the pressure and temperature of the coolant, where the pressurization and cooling may use common or separate cuff ports. The cuff has a coolant circulating having a temperature and pressure selected to provide therapy to a subject in need thereof. The cuffs may be applied to the upper arms and upper thighs of a subject in need of improved vitality.
Use of endovascular hypothermia in organ and/or tissue transplantations
Methods for (a) preventing hypoxic damage to a potentially transplantable organ or tissue prior to explanation of that organ or tissue from the body of a mammalian transplant donor and (b) preventing rejection of a transplanted organ or tissue in a human or veterinary transplant recipient. The methods comprise placing a heat exchange apparatus in the vasculature of the donor or recipient and using that heat exchange apparatus to cool at least a portion of the body of the donor or recipient to a temperature below normothermia (e.g. below normothermia and sometimes between about 30 C. and about 36 C.).
OVINE PROTECTOR
An ovine protector for a newborn ovine including a shaped body wrap having a body cover portion, the shaped body providing a protection from the weather; a connection system connecting at extremities the shaped body wrap to the newborn ovine, the connection system having a triangular arrangement between a front collar connection and two separate rear leg connections; and wherein the protector provides a covering over the newborn ovine with an open rear and open underneath by the connection system.
Compression sequenced thermal therapy system
A sequential compression and temperature therapy blanket with a plurality of air chambers is disclosed. The air chambers are filled and released by a valve assembly that may be separate from or integrated within the blanket. The temperature therapy blanket includes a fluid bladder for delivering hot and/or cold therapy to a patient. The temperature therapy blanket may also include an air bladder for providing compression.
Controllable thermal warming devices
A controllable thermal warming device for delivering heat to an object by radio frequency signal. The controllable thermal warming device may include a thermal ink heating element comprising a substrate and a conductive ink fixedly disposed on the substrate, a power source operatively coupled to the conductive ink, the power source adapted to deliver a voltage to the conductive ink to cause the conductive ink to radiate heat, a controller operatively coupled to the power source and the conductive ink, the controller adapted to control the voltage delivered to the conductive ink and to detect an operating characteristic of the conductive ink and adjust the voltage in response to the operating characteristic, and means for controlling the controller by radio frequency. The controllable thermal warming device may also include a sensor to provide the operating characteristic to the controller.
Medical pad and system for thermotherapy
An improved medical pad for contact thermal exchange with a patient includes a fluid circulation layer for containing a thermal exchange fluid circulatable therethrough, a first port and a second port for circulating the thermal exchange fluid in to and out of the fluid circulation layer, and a hydrogel layer interconnected to and extending across one side of the fluid circulation layer to define an adhesive surface for adherence to a patient's skin. The hydrogel layer can include an ultraviolet light-cured composition with a cross-linking copolymer, water, and glycerol. The hydrogel layer is provided to have a thermal conductivity of at least about 1.9 ca/hr-cm- C.
COOLING DEVICES WITH FLEXIBLE SENSORS
A device for exchanging heat with a subject having skin is provided. The device includes a heat exchanging member having a heat transfer surface configured to form a heat conducting interface with the subject's skin. The device further includes a substantially flexible sensing device disposed in the interface between the heat exchanging member and the subject's skin. The sensing device is configured to measure a parameter of the interface without substantially impeding heat transfer between the heat exchanging member and the subject's skin.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR LEAK DETECTION IN EXTERNAL COOLING PAD
An externally-applied heat exchange pad has three layers laminated together, an inner and outer non-conductive layer and a middle conductive layer. A leak in the inner layer causes coolant to contact the middle layer and change impedance, which can be sensed and used as an indication of an impending total leak of the pad.
