SYSTEM AND METHOD USING PID CONTROLLER TO CONTROL TEMPERATURE OF A THERMAL ACCESSORY
20230118833 · 2023-04-20 · ·

A thermal accessory controller for controlling the temperature of a thermal accessory. The thermal accessory controller comprises a liquid reservoir for storing a thermal liquid that circulates through the thermal accessory, a temperature control system (TCS) in liquid communication with the liquid reservoir that adjusts the temperature of the thermal liquid according to a TCS target temperature value, and a control unit that controls the temperature control system using the TCS target temperature value. The control unit receives a TCS target temperature, receives a temperature measurement from a temperature sensor, and determines a magnitude of a difference between the TCS target temperature and the temperature measurement. The control unit executes a proportional-integral-differential (PID) algorithm to cause the temperature control system to adjust the temperature of the thermal liquid based on the difference between the TCS target temperature and the temperature measurement.

Cold therapy cooler apparatus

A Cold Therapy Cooler Apparatus includes a port body with a flange and threads that is inserted into an orifice in the sidewall or lid of a cooler. An interior retaining ring with compatible threads cooperates with the flange to retain the port body within the orifice. A circulating pump is inside the cooler. An internal supply hose is connected to the pump, and to a supply pass-through that passes through the port body and is connected to an exterior supply hose. An internal return hose is connected to the pump, and to a return pass-through that passes through the port body and is connected to an exterior return hose. The exterior hoses are connected to an anatomical area cooling device. A power cord is connected to the pump and to a power cord connection by way of a power cord pass-through that passes through the port body.

THERMAL CONTRAST THERAPY DEVICE

Methods and apparatus for an improved Contrast Therapy Device that delivers alternating heated and chilled temperature fluids to a contrast thermal therapy pad. Mitigation processes maintain water temperature in hot water tanks and cold water tanks in order to keep water temperatures in the respective tanks from drifting beyond a desired setpoint range when the system switches a therapy state from a cooling cycle to a heating cycle or from heating cycle to a cooling cycle. Thermal shock is reduced to the fluid tanks. Mitigation techniques include delaying actuation of a return path flow, such as via a diverting solenoid. Mitigating delay can be a static time delay based upon one or both of: a volume of water in a therapy pad and related volume and rate of flow; and meeting a threshold transition temperature for return fluid temperature.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER FROM A BODY

Methods and apparatuses for temperature modification of a patient, or selected regions thereof, including an induced state of hypothermia. The temperature modification is accomplished using an in-dwelling heat exchange catheter within which a fluid heat exchange medium circulates. A heat exchange cassette is attached to the circulatory conduits of the catheter, the heat exchange cassette being sized to engage a cavity within a control unit. The control unit includes a heater/cooler device for providing heated or cooled fluid to a heat exchanger in thermal communication with the fluid heat exchange medium circulating to the heat exchange catheter, a user input device, and a processor connected to receive input from various sensors around the body and the system. A temperature control scheme for ramping the body temperature up or down without overshoot is provided.
