SEMI-AQUEOUS METHOD FOR EXTRACTING A SUBSTANCE

A semi-aqueous method for extracting a substance. The method involves combining a first liquid or solid substance containing an extract with a semi-aqueous solution containing a water-soluble or water-emulsifiable (WSWE) compound. Said WSWE compound selectively dissolves extract during a dense phase CO.sub.2 expansion and salting-out process, which is simultaneously co-extracted using said dense phase CO.sub.2, and desolvated to produce a CO.sub.2 salted-out solvent mixture containing extract. Said CO.sub.2 salted-out solvent mixture is treated using various secondary processes. The present invention is useful for producing extracts for use as additives in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, beverages, or foods, and for quantitative analysis.

METHOD FOR SEPARATING COLLAGEN FROM LIPOSUCTION EFFLUENT USING SUPERCRITICAL PROCESS

The present invention relates to a method for extracting collagen from liposuction effluent, wherein collagen is extracted by treating collagen-containing liposuction effluent in the presence of a supercritical fluid. According to the present invention, conventionally discarded collagen in liposuction effluent can be extracted at high purity, and the extracted high purity collagen can be widely used in medical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic products.

Extraction of natural ferulate and coumarate from biomass

A process for a reactive separation of organic molecules from biomass includes a reaction step for the biomass, a simultaneous extraction step using a solvent, and a filtration step to recover products, wherein the products comprise ferulic acid and/or coumaric acid. The products are extracted from the biomass in a pressurized stirred batch reactor using a liquid extraction solvent and a base in which the ferulate and the coumarate remain.

CHLOROPHYLL POLISHING SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Infused oil polishing systems and methods reduce or remove chlorophyll from bulk biomass saturated ethanol. A processing vessel includes a valved input port for receiving a biomass mixture and a valved output port for expelling a polished mixture containing the desired extract. The vessel is pressurized or evacuated, causing the chlorophyll-containing carbon to be trapped by the filter assembly as the desired extract mixture is discharged. The equipment operates at relatively low pressures of 40 psi or less, and one operator can run multiple units. The end user can control the degree of polishing by adjusting the amount of media used and resident time. The basic apparatus can also be modified to run in parallel or series combinations to increase throughput. An optional elevating rack provides for ease of cleaning, and no expensive ancillary equipment needs to be purchased.

METHODS OF EXTRACTING CANNABINOIDS FROM CANNABIS INCLUDING FROM FRESH CANNABIS

Disclosed is methods of preparing a cannabinoid extract or cannabinoids from Cannabis biomass. The biomass can be at any degree of hydration, from damp with external water, to dried. The methods use a triacylglyceride (TAG) oil to extract cannabinoids into the TAG oil at +5° C. to +45° C. The enriched oil is then optionally further processed. If the TAG was either triacetin or tributyrin, the further processing can be done directly using reverse phase chromatography.

Method and system for tissue treatment with critical/supercritical carbon dioxide

Methods of decontaminating bone tissue and an apparatus or system for the same are provided. The methods can be multi-batch processes and include contacting the bone tissue having contaminants with carbon dioxide to decontaminate the bone tissue and to form carbon dioxide having contaminants. The contaminated carbon dioxide is collected and the contaminants are removed to obtain purified carbon dioxide which can be recycled to treat contaminated bone tissue. The contaminated carbon dioxide can be purified by bubbling it through water and/or an organic solvent followed by acid treatment, filtering and liquefying the carbon dioxide. Contaminants that can be removed from contaminated bone tissue, and in turn, from contaminated carbon dioxide include infectious organisms, bacteria, viruses, protozoa, parasites, fungi and mold or a mixture thereof.
