Advanced adsorption processes for separation of bio-derived products
Disclosed herein are methods for the recovery of target bio-base carboxylic acid products using a sorption-based technology with a mixed elution solvent optimized for minimized downstream distillation energy input. The sorption-based technology includes absorbing the targeted bio-base carboxylic acid products onto a non-ionic resin and eluting the targeted bio-base carboxylic acid products with a mixed elution solvent. The mixed elution solvent includes a first solvent and a second solvent. The first solvent has a boiling point that is lower than the targeted bio-base carboxylic acid products and the second solvent is selected from the group consisting of a phosphine oxide or tertiary amine.
SUMP PUMP SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR REMOVING SYNTHETIC ESTER-BASED FLUIDS FROM AN EMULSION
A polishing filter apparatus employed within a sump pump system for removing mineral oils, natural ester, and synthetic ester-based fluids from an emulsion is provided. The polishing filter apparatus is connected to a sump pump barrier via a polishing filter inlet conduit, Further conduit structures are disposed within the polishing filter apparatus, which lead into a polishing filter cartridge. The polishing filter removes excess synthetic ester-based fluids from a water/oil emulsion fluid flowing therethrough and releases a resultant filtered fluid. The polishing filter cartridge contains a filtration media with a hydrophilic composition for the capture of synthetic ester-based fluid having a surface tension dissimilar to water, and the hydrophilic composition of the media has a surface energy greater than or equal to 35 dynes per centimeter.
METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR PURIFICATION OF GEL DROPLETS SUPPORTING BIOLOGICAL TISSUE
Method and apparatuses for forming gel droplets including biological tissue (e.g., cells), and in particular, methods and apparatuses for removing oil from the gel droplets comprising dissociated cells (including micro-organospheres) are described herein. Although it is beneficial to use oil in the formation of these gel droplets, and particularly micro-organospheres, oil may inhibit growth and survival of the cells within the gel droplets. The methods and apparatuses described herein may permit the removal of oil and may enhance survival and quality of the resulting gel droplets.
OIL-WATER SEPARATION FILTER STRUCTURE AND OIL-WATER SEPARATOR COMPRISING THE SAME
The present disclosure is directed to providing an oil-water separation filter structure including a base guide having a separated water outlet hole through which a fluid separated from a mixed fluid including an impurity exits, an oil-water separation filter disposed on the base guide to separate the impurity and the fluid included in the mixed liquid, and a top guide disposed on the oil-water separation filter, having at least one mixed fluid inlet hole through which the mixed fluid enters, and coupled to the base guide.
According to the present disclosure, the oil-water separation filter structure includes a hydrophilic material to separate water and oil, and as opposed to the existing nonwoven fabric type filters, can be continuously used, thereby preventing environmental pollution problems.
Methods with a construction that absorbs an organic chemical
Construction for absorbing a fluid, for example, a liquid or gaseous, organic chemical, has an extended web, fabric, yarn or foam member and associated with the extended web, fabric, yarn or foam member is a water-insoluble polymer. The water-insoluble polymer can absorb the fluid organic chemical, and the construction provides for contact of the water-insoluble polymer with the fluid organic chemical when deployed in an environment where the fluid organic chemical may be present for absorption. The construction may be employed in aquatic, aqueous, or dry environments, as a blotter, a wipe or sponge, a filter, in a cartridge, and so forth.

Polysaccharide aerogel
Disclosed herein is a polysaccharide aerogel comprising cotton cellulose fibres and a method of preparing the polysaccharide aerogel. The method comprises: mixing cotton cellulose fibres and a cross-linker to form a mixture; sonicating the mixture; freezing the sonicated mixture; and freeze drying the frozen mixture to form an aerogel. A further embodiment provides a polysaccharide aerogel comprising cotton cellulose fibres and paper cellulose fibres in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:6 and a method of preparation thereof wherein in the mixing step, the paper cellulose fibres are added to the cotton cellulose fibres to form a mixture.
COMPOSITE FOR OIL-WATER SEPARATION, SYNTHESIS METHODS AND APPLICATIONS OF SAME
Certain aspects of the invention relate to a method of synthesizing a composite usably for oil-water separation comprising surface nanostructuring a pristine powder or porous material to form a nanostructured powder or porous material having surfaces with nanoscale features; and coating single or multilayers of one or more low surface energy oligomers, polymers, or their composites with other materials on the surfaces of the nanostructured powder or porous material.
Recovery of crude oil from a crude oil adsorbent and simultaneous regeneration of the adsorbent
A method of recovering crude oil from crude oil drenched adsorbent and simultaneously regenerating the adsorbent to render it suitable for re-use in crude oil adsorption. The method includes contacting crude oil drenched adsorbent, in the form of solid nanofibrous expanded polystyrene drenched with adsorbed crude oil, with a non-polar solvent, thereby obtaining regenerated crude oil lean adsorbent and crude oil rich solvent.
Drying System, Dryer Cartridge, and Use of a Dryer Cartridge
A drying system for removal of water from a liquid is provided with a device for receiving the liquid and a dryer cartridge with a cartridge body and a connection head arranged at the cartridge body. The cartridge body has a cartridge body wall delimiting a receiving chamber, at least in sections thereof, wherein the cartridge body wall allows the liquid to pass into and out of the receiving chamber. A drying agent is received in the receiving chamber. The connection head of the dryer cartridge is fastened to a housing wall of the device for receiving the liquid and secures the dryer cartridge at the device for receiving the liquid so that the cartridge body is fixed relative to the housing wall.
