Method, Device and System for Modulating an Activity of Brown Adipose Tissue in a Vertebrate Subject

Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed herein for treatment of a disease, disorder, or condition in a vertebrate subject. A device is provided that includes one or more cooling elements configured to be applied to one or more tissues of a vertebrate subject to modulate at least one activity of brown adipose tissue of the vertebrate subject, and a programmable controller configured to provide instructions to the one or more cooling elements in response to information regarding one or more physiological conditions of the vertebrate subject.

Independent magnetically-multiplexed heating of portions of a target

A predetermined spatial locale is selectively operationally stimulated through local heating by exposing magnetic particle(s) associated with such local to alternating magnetic field parameters of which are chosen to generate hysteretic losses in magnetic particle(s). When different types of particles are associated with different locales such as different biological cells, different cells can be accessed and stimulated independently from one another. Switching between stimulation of first and second types of cells is carried out by changing parameters of stimulating magnetic field, while optionally maintaining the field strength-frequency product substantially constant. Embodiments facilitate multiplexed release of chemical payloads, triggering changes in electrical polarization, and changing a shape of a unit placed at the chosen locale.

METHOD AND APPARATUS UTILIZING MAGNETIC NANOPARTICLES FOR PERFORMING HYPERTHERMAL THERAPIES

A system for heating tissue in a subject, has an alternating current (AC) source coupled to a coil; a magnetically permeable passive magnetic concentrator, and positioned to alter an intensity distribution of the field;. The system has a processor with a computer model of coil and concentrator, the memory with code for simulating magnetic fields and configured to generate an intensity map describing the intensity distribution of the AC magnetic field. A method of providing an alternating current (AC) magnetic field to magnetic nanoparticles includes: providing a source of alternating current coupled to a coil; positioning the coil in a vicinity of the nanoparticles; positioning a passive concentrator near the nanoparticles; and energizing the coil to generate the AC field, the field shaped by the concentrator and heats the nanoparticles. A particular embodiment simulates the magnetic field and compares the field to parameters to verify adequate heating of the nanoparticles.

An inductive heating system including a tape with a mechanism for securing a physio tape to the body of a user. The tape has a mechanism for securing a material to the body of a user. Plural pockets are disposed along the length of the tape in which plural removeable heating or cooling elements are mounted, with at least one element being a removeable inductive heating element mounted on or in said physio tape, whereby each of the heating or cooling elements may be inserted or removed individually. An inductive heating element is mounted on or in the material and is adapted to receive magnetic energy from a remote inductive heating source.
