The embodiments provided herein relate to a water purification system and method utilizing a filter cartridge comprising a plurality of filter wafers stacked to form a plurality of channels for unfiltered water to flow through for purification. The water purification system is configured to utilize the exclusion zone phenomenon to separate impurities from water using hydrophilic surfaces and trifurcations to divert pure water from impurities. The filter cartridge comprising a plurality of filter wafers may be received by a water receptacle to provide a low-energy water purification system.

Superhydrophilic filter structure for selectively separating water and oil
A filter structure capable of efficiently separating water and oil using wettability is provided. The filter structure includes a first filter layer including a plurality of openings and a second filter layer including a plurality of openings and positioned so as to be overlapped with the first filter layer at a distance from each other. The first filter layer and the second filter layer include surfaces each having a dual-scale protrusion and depression structure as a combination of a micro-scale structure and a nano-scale structure, and thus have superhydrophilicity and selectively allow water from a water and oil mixture to pass therethrough.

Disclosed is a solid/liquid separation apparatus including an extruder press combined with a solid/fluid separation module for separating fluid from a mass of solids compressed by the extruder at elevated pressures. The extruder includes two or more extruder screws with flighting intercalated at least along a part of the extruder barrel. The separation module forms a continuation of the barrel, receives the pressurized mass and at least a portion of the twin screws, and includes a filter pack consisting of a filter plate and a backer plate. The filter plate has a throughgoing filter slot extending away from a core opening and into the filter plate for directing fluid away from the core opening. The backer plate has a core opening shaped and sized equal to the barrel and defines a passage for guiding fluid collected in the filter slot to an exterior of the filter pack.

A method for manufacturing a silica membrane filter includes performing, at least once, a fired membrane forming operation having a membrane forming step of applying, to a porous substrate, a precursor sol which is a sol of a silicon alcoxide including a p-tolyl group to form a precursor sol membrane, a drying step of drying the precursor sol membrane formed in the porous substrate to form a dried membrane, and a firing step of firing the dried membrane formed in the porous substrate to form a fired membrane, thereby preparing the silica membrane filter including the porous substrate and a silica membrane which is the fired membrane formed in the porous substrate, and a ratio of a total mass of the silica membrane to a total mass of the dried membrane is 38 mass % or more and 85 mass % or less.
Screw Press with Filter Plates
A screw press for separating liquid from a solid-liquid mixture includes a casing having inlet and outlet sections, and a filter section there between. The filter section includes an axially extending stack of coplanar filtration plates defining a core passage for receiving a screw configured to convey the solid-liquid mixture from the inlet section to the outlet section while compressing and dewatering the solid-liquid mixture by forcing at least part of the liquid content of the mixture to be expelled out of the casing through inter-plate gaps defined between each pair of adjacent filtration plates. The filtration plates are fixed relative to one another and clamped in direct intimate face-to-face contact by a clamping assembly operable for applying a predetermined axially clamping pressure substantially uniformly about the core passage. The inter-plate gaps are controlled by the surface roughness of the plates and the clamping pressure.
