An assembly (2) comprising at least two elements (10, 24) in a movable arrangement relative to each other for performing a first function of the assembly (2) is furthermore equipped with an anti-biofouling system (30) for subjecting at least an area (11) of the assembly (2) to be at least partially exposed to water during at least a part of its lifetime to an anti-biofouling action as an additional function of the assembly (2), different from the first function of the assembly (2). The anti-biofouling system (30) comprises one or more light sources (32) for emitting anti-biofouling light, and the anti-biofouling system (30) is adapted to realize coverage of the area (11) with the anti-biofouling light on the basis of the movable arrangement of the at least two elements (10, 24) relative to each other for performing the first function of the assembly (2).

A filtering device for filtering particles, in particular plastic particles, such as plastic fibers, from liquid is configured to be operated in a filtering mode in which particles, in particular plastic particles, are filtered from a liquid flowing through the filtering device, the filtering device comprising an inlet chamber receiving unfiltered liquid in the filtering mode, an outlet chamber receiving filtered liquid from the inlet chamber in the filtering mode, and a filter screen unit separating the inlet chamber from the outlet chamber and being configured to filter particles from liquid flowing from the inlet chamber into the outlet chamber, wherein the filter screen unit is rotatable about an axis of rotation, characterized in that at least a part of the inlet chamber is located radially outward of the rotatable filter screen unit with respect to the axis of rotation, and the filtering device is configured to be operated in a self-cleaning mode in which the filter screen unit is rotated to detach filtered particle-sludge from the filter screen unit.

The system may be integrated into a packaged unit that may be installed at a operation site, and maybe operated with multiple like units to increase treatment flowrates.

Methods of operating candle filter systems for removing solids from MEG recovered from drilling fluids include passing an MEG rich stream to a candle filter system comprising a plurality of candle filter units in parallel, determining a concentration of TDS in the MEG rich stream, determining whether to operate the candle filter system in a low TDS mode or a high TDS mode based on the concentration of TDS the MEG rich stream, filtering the MEG rich stream in the plurality of candle filter units to produce a filtrate and a filter cake, determining to conduct a cleaning cycle of the candle filter units based on a pressure differential, and conducting a cleaning cycle to remove the filter cake from the outer surfaces of the filter candles. The cleaning cycle is modified to improve removal of solids from the filter candles of the candle filter units.
