Compartmentally expandable rotating belt filter for energy use reduction

The present technology relates generally to fluid filtration systems. In particular, several embodiments are directed toward compartmentally expandable rotating belt filters and associated systems and methods. In some embodiments, for example, a filtering system for contaminated fluid includes a first fluid filtering chamber having a first filter belt movably positioned therein and a second fluid filtering chamber having a second filter belt movably positioned therein. The first filter belt can be operable in parallel with the second filter belt. The system can further include a sensor configured to sense a condition related a volume of the contaminated fluid, a speed of flow of the contaminated fluid, or a level of contaminants in the contaminated fluid. A controller can be configured to initiate, stop, or adjust fluid flow to the first fluid filtering chamber and second fluid filtering chamber individually in response to the sensed condition.

Rotary disc filter with automatic integrated backwash and chemical cleaning system

A rotary disc filter is provided with an integrated backwash and chemical cleaning system. In one mode of operation, backwash is directed through a control valve to one or more nozzles for spraying the backwash onto the filter media forming a part of a rotary disc filter. In a second mode, a chemical cleaning mode, the pump directs backwash through an eductor that induces a chemical into the inductor which is mixed with the backwash to form a backwash-chemical mixture that is sprayed onto the filter media. A control system is used in conjunction with the backwash and cleaning systems to monitor process information and/or filter media properties and to determine when to perform backwashes and regenerative cleanings in order to optimize the performance of the filter system.

A disc filter system and method for dewatering a fiber suspension is disclosed. The disc filter system includes a disc filter and a control system. The disc filter comprises an inlet for introducing the fiber suspension into the vessel, a rotor shaft and a variable speed drive operatively coupled to the rotor shaft, and at least one filter element coupled to the rotor shaft wherein the at least one filter element rotates with the rotor shaft. The control system measures a torque on the variable speed drive and causes the variable speed drive to adjust the rotational speed of the rotor shaft from a first rotational speed to a second rotational speed based on the torque on the variable speed drive.

PORTABLE FLUID FILTERING APPARATUS

A portable fluid filtering apparatus includes a debris chamber having an exhaust port; a rotor that draws in a fluid from outside the debris chamber to the exhaust port; a filter positioned between the exhaust port and the rest of the debris chamber; an intake port in fluid communication with the debris chamber and wherein the rotor draws the fluid into the debris chamber through the intake port; and a drive system configured to rotate the rotor that includes a drive shaft connected to the rotor, a motor to rotate the drive shaft, and a power source for the motor.

Device and method for measuring a filter cake thickness

A rotary pressure filter, comprising a filter drum and a housing. A sensor is attached to the housing and emits light through a light-permeable section of the housing in the direction of a filter cake. The sensor receives light reflected from the filter cake through the light-permeable section of the housing. A processing unit compares properties of the emitted light with those of the received light and determines an absolute thickness of the filter cake and/or a change in the thickness of the filter cake over a pre-determined time. The invention further relates to a corresponding method.
