Spectral optimization of audio masking waveforms
A system for masking audio signals includes a microphone for generating an ambient audio signal representing ambient noise, a speaker for rendering masking audio, and a processor in communication with the microphone and the speaker. The processor performs spectral analysis on the ambient audio signal from the microphone to determine a spectral envelope of the ambient noise, adjusts a frequency response of an optimizing filter based on the spectral envelope, applies the optimizing filter to a baseline masking waveform, producing an output waveform with relative spectral distribution matching the ambient noise, and provides the output waveform to the speaker.
Headset
A headset includes two earcups that overlie and seal around the wearer's ears. The headset includes a system for suspension of the earcups on a helmet, as well as a speaker enclosure that provides increased structural strength without taking up additional space on the board.

Method and apparatus for scoring shooting events using hearing protection devices
A system for scoring a shooting event for a shooter includes a pair of hearing protection devices and a portable device. The hearing protection devices each include an electronic circuit that detects a gunshot and produces detection information characterizing the gunshot as detected. The difference between the detection information produced by the hearing protection devices worn in or over different ears of the shooter allows the portable devices to identify the gunshot as being fired by the shooter and subsequently prompt the shooter to give a voice command indicating the result of the gunshot to the portable device for the scoring without manual entry.

Battery compartment solution for a hearing protection device
Embodiments relate generally to hearing protection devices comprising a battery compartment with a removable cover. Generally, the removable cover has two configurations: an unlocked configuration and a locked configuration. Typically, the removable cover may include a key and be configured to assist in one-handed removable by a gloved user (e.g. while the hearing protection device is being worn). So, for example, upon unlocking, the key might be configured to pop out automatically to allow the user to grasp the key and remove the removable cover.
Electronic ear protection devices
Electronic ear protection devices are provided herein. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, an electronic ear protection device comprises a pair of ear cups, each comprising a speaker, and a headband that interconnects and supports the pair of ear cups on opposite ends of the headband. The device also includes an electronic sound control module disposed outside of the ear cups. The module comprises one or more microphones configured to detect an ambient sound, and one or more inputs operable to control a volume of the ambient sound signal delivered to the speakers.
HEARING PROTECTION DEVICE WITH MULTIBAND LIMITER AND RELATED METHOD
A hearing protection device includes: a sub-band splitting module configured to divide a first microphone input signal into sub-band signals having a first sub-band signal and a second sub-band signal; an estimator module configured to estimate signal strength parameters of respective sub-band signals, the signal strength parameters having a first signal strength parameter of the first sub-band signal, and a second signal strength parameter of the second sub-band signal; a multiband limiter; and a limiter controller; wherein the limiter controller is configured to determine gain reductions for the sub-band signals of the first microphone input signal, the gain reductions having a first gain reduction and a second gain reduction, and wherein the limiter controller is configured to control the multiband limiter to apply the second gain reduction to the second sub-band signal, wherein the second gain reduction for the second sub-band signal is based on the first signal strength parameter.
