Fractionation system using bundled compact co-current contacting systems

A fractionation system for removing heavy hydrocarbons in a gas stream. A stripping section receives a predominantly liquid phase of the feed gas stream. A co-current contacting system receives a predominantly vapor phase of the feed gas stream. The co-current contacting system includes a compact contacting bundle disposed within a vessel and including a plurality of substantially parallel contacting units, each of the plurality of contacting units having a droplet generator, a mass transfer section, and a separation system. Each droplet generator generates droplets from a liquid disperses the droplets into a gas stream. Each mass transfer section provides a mixed, two-phase flow having a vapor phase and a liquid phase. Each separation system separates the vapor phase from the liquid phase such that the concentration of heavy hydrocarbons in the vapor phase is lower than in the liquid phase.

A process for treating a petroleum fraction and for efficiently absorbing an organic halogen compound from a fluid mixture of the organic halogen compound and an inorganic halogen compound derived from crude oil. Also disclosed is an improvement in absorption performance of a halogen-compound-absorbing material, thereby reducing the frequency with which the absorbing material is exchanged. The absorbing agent includes attapulgite (palygorskite) having high absorption performance with respect to organic halogen compounds. Also disclosed is an absorption column in which the aforementioned absorbing agent and a halogen-compound-absorbing agent, that includes zinc oxide, are disposed in series, thereby making it possible to raise the treatment performance with respect to a fluid that contains, in high concentrations, the organic halogen compound in addition to the inorganic halogen compound.

Method and system for mixing gas and liquid for gravitational, physical and chemical collection of compounds

A method is described for mixing gas and liquid for gravitational, physical and chemical collection of compounds or particles, based on decreasing of the compounds free mean path in a vessel, and comprising the steps of: gravitational depletion, involving abating compounds and liquid chemical solution drops with higher diameter than higher volume; physical deposition, involving the condensation of abated compounds on a wet surface of the vessel; chemical adsorption, involving chemical reaction between the abated compounds and the species in the liquid chemical solution.

A still/stahl column includes a still section, a primary stahl section, the primary stahl section positioned beneath the still section, and a polishing stahl section, the polishing stahl section positioned beneath the primary stahl section. A process also includes feeding a water rich glycol still feed stream to the still section and feeding a stripping gas feed stream to the polishing still section. The process includes withdrawing a reboiler draw stream from the still section and heating the reboiler draw stream in a reboiler to form a reboiler inlet stream. The process includes injecting the reboiler inlet stream into the primary stahl section, stripping water from the water rich glycol with the stripping gas, and withdrawing a still stripping gas stream from a top portion of the still section. A lean glycol polishing discharge stream is withdrawn from a bottom portion of the polishing stahl section.

One variation of a method for carbon sequestration includes: mixing ambient air including carbon dioxide and secondary gases with a working fluid to generate a first mixture; conveying the first mixture through a compressor to pressurize the first mixture from a first pressure to a second pressure greater than the first pressure to promote absorption of carbon dioxide into the working fluid; depositing the first mixture in a high-pressure vessel to generate an exhaust stream of secondary gases and a second mixture including carbon dioxide dissolved in the working fluid; conveying the second mixture through a turbine configured to extract energy and reduce pressure of the second mixture, from the second pressure to the first pressure, to promote desorption of carbon dioxide from the working fluid; transferring the second mixture into the low-pressure vessel; and releasing carbon dioxide, desorbed from the working fluid, from the low-pressure vessel for collection.

Cold Solvent Gas Treating System

A method of removing impurities from a natural gas stream. A selective solvent is provided that absorbs a first impurity at a first rate and a second impurity at a second rate that is slower than the first rate. The solvent is cooled to a temperature below 60° F. to provide a cooled solvent. The cooled solvent is contacted with the natural gas stream, thereby generating a rich solvent that includes the first impurity. The rich solvent is removed from the natural gas stream, wherein an amount of the first impurity remaining in the natural gas stream is below a sales gas requirement.
