Compressed gas drying system
11406912 · 2022-08-09 ·

The invention provides a method and system for suppressing the dew point of a compressed gas to a minimum level below ambient temperature by controlling pressure, cooling and removing liquid water condensate from the compressed gas prior to storage in a receiver vessel and/or delivery to point of use. In one embodiment, the method has an air intake for accepting ambient air having any level of water vapour content, a compressor for compressing the air, a heat exchanger which cools the compressed air and sets the water vapour content of the air to a value determined by the pressure and the exit temperature of air in the heat exchanger, a liquid water separation device which removes condensed liquid water, a pressure control valve which ensures the maintenance of a minimum set pressure in the upstream system, an air receiver to act as a reservoir for the delivery of unsaturated compressed air and a main system regulation valve used to limit the maximum pressure of the compressed air delivered to the downstream system. In a preferred embodiment, the equipment and methodology forms a complete system that can be used for general compressed air applications as well as in specific compressed gas processes that have a dry gas requirement.

A membrane device is presented that can used for a wide range of applications from once-through filtration, crossflow filtration, molecular separation, gas/liquid absorption or reaction, gas dispersion into liquid, and degassing of liquid. The device comprises a thin flat sheet membrane that allows certain fluid or molecules go through while blocking others. The membrane sheet is fixed on a supporting structure with mini channel on two sides of the membrane for respective feed and sweep flows. The membrane sheet is sealed with gaskets with two cover plates that the membrane sheet can be replaced or cleaned. The cover plate provides connection ports to connect the feed fluid to the feed channels on one membrane surface and to connect the sweep fluid to the sweep channels on the other surface of the membrane.

Cooling Systems Having An Integrated Ionic Liquid Salt Dehumidification System

A cooling system utilizes an organic ionic salt composition for dehumidification of an airflow. The organic ionic salt composition absorbs moisture from an inlet airflow to produce an outlet airflow with a reduce moisture from that of the inlet airflow. The organic ionic salt composition may be regenerated, wherein the absorbed moisture is expelled by heating with a heating device. The heating device may be an electrochemical heating device, such as a fuel cell, an electrochemical metal hydride heating device, an electrochemical heat pump or compressor, or a condenser of a refrigerant cycle, which may utilize an electrochemical pump or compressor. The efficiency of the cooling system may be increased by utilization of the waste heat the cooling system. The organic ionic salt composition may circulate back and forth or in a loop between a conditioner, where it absorbs moisture, to a regenerator, where moisture is desorbed by heating.
