This disclosure describes example portable medical device protectors that may be used in combination with various antimicrobial and/or antiseptic agents to reduce contaminants on a portable medical device. According to some embodiments, the disclosure describes that the protectors may comprise an impermeable container to store a permeable applicator impregnated with an antimicrobial or antiseptic agent.

SEAL RING CAST PROTECTOR

A cast and bandage protector that uses a seal ring but avoids water pooling and seepage. It uses a flexible, stretchable and deformable diaphragm stretched tightly over a seal ring in order to seal the ordinarily open end of a flexible sleeve of waterproof material. The rigid seal ring flexible holder holds the flexible sleeve open and the diaphragm tightly stretches over and above it to minimize water pooling seepage and leaking about the interface of the diaphragm and the limb of the patient wearing the cast and the cast protector.

A device used for applying an antiseptic preparation to a surgical site of a patient prior to surgery outside of an operating theater. A loose-fitting bag is provided which encloses the surgical site by securing the open end(s) to the patient by closing means. A high friction scrub surface is provided in the bag. A method and apparatus are also provided for releasing antiseptic into the interior of the bag. The method provides that the surgical site can be scrubbed within the bag so as to properly prepare the skin for surgery. A temperature indicator for the antiseptic preparation is also provided.

The waterproof protector comprises a body comprising a fabric layer comprising polyester; a water repellent applied to a first surface of the fabric layer; an antimicrobial substance applied to an opposite surface of the fabric layer and located on an inner surface of the body. The body comprises a main seam formed by a junction of the fabric layer, the junction being sewn by an ultrasound to form a main seam which is further sealed with an additional layer of a waterproof material positioned on the inner surface of the body and sealed to the inner surface by heat. The waterproof protector further comprises a stretchable strap attached to an end of the body and having several hook-and-loop fastener portions for leakless securing of the protector to the body member.

A first connector releasably connects the first inner edge and the second inner together, forming a water tight seal along the length of the tubular sidewall.

Also the invention includes the use of a water-resistant plastic material preferably clear, colored or printed, formed into a protective cover for the limbs in or other body areas and gathered at the openings with elastic band sealed to the edges, and in some items, with a second band sealed into a cuff in the interior of the device, a distance parallel to the band on the end. The design will avoid circulatory problems of over-tightening and the problems of the other devices to secure a reasonably leak-proof opening.
