SEPARATIONS MEMBRANE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
The separations membrane system includes a substrate, a microporous layer, and a selective layer. The microporous layer may be disposed over the substrate. The selective layer may be disposed over the microporous layer, thereby sandwiching the microporous layer between the selective layer and the substrate. The microporous layer includes a thermoplastic material. The selective layer includes a polyamide structure of 2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine and/or 1,3,5-Benzenetricarbonyl chloride.
CATION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME
A cation-exchange membrane using a polyolefin-based substrate with reduced swelling of an ion-exchange resin and a low electrical resistance is provided. The cation-exchange membrane of the present invention includes a substrate made of polyolefin-based woven fabric, and a sulfonic acid group-containing cation-exchange resin. A portion of the cation-exchange membrane other than the substrate has 23 mass % or more to 35 mass % or less of polyvinyl chloride.
PROCESS FOR OBTAINING POLYAMIDE MEMBRANE WITH NANOSTRUCTURED COATING, MEMBRANES AND USE
The present invention refers to a surface coating of commercial polyamide (PA) membranes with graphene oxide (GO) using a technology that involves spin-coating with specific sequence of low and high rotation, interface phenomena provided by a set of materials containing ethyl alcohol in high concentration, as well as morphological characteristics and customized surface chemistry of GO, among other conditions that allow a differentiated technology to obtain an effective coating of GO on PA membrane.
Thin film composite hollow fiber membranes fabrication systems
Apparatuses and methods for fabricating thin film composite hollow fiber membranes. In some implementations, an apparatus is used to remove excess first solution from a hollow fiber that has been immersed in a first solution. In some implementations, the method and apparatuses include flowing a gas, for example, compressed gas or ambient air, past a surface of a hollow fiber that has been immersed in a first solution prior to immersion in a second solution. In some implementations, the gas is flowed past the surface under positive pressure, while in other implementations the gas is flowed under negative pressure, for example, vacuum. The apparatuses and devices can be used to produce thin film composite hollow fiber membranes without pressing or damaging the hollow fiber.
BIPOLAR IONOMER MEMBRANE
Provided are membranes useful for electrochemical or fuel cells. A membrane may be formed of or include a sulfonated polymer whereby the sulfonated polymer is covalently or ionically associated with a multi-nitrogen containing heterocyclic molecule. The resulting membranes possess excellent ion conductivity and selectivity.
SYNTHETIC MEMBRANES AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
The present invention relates to synthetic membranes and use of these synthetic membranes for isolation of volatile organic compounds and purification of water. The synthetic membrane includes a hydrophobic polymer layer located on a polymeric membrane support layer. The invention includes a method of isolating volatile organic compounds with the synthetic membrane by contacting a volatile organic mixture with the hydrophobic polymer layer of the synthetic membrane and removing volatile organic compounds from the polymeric membrane support layer of the synthetic membrane by a process of pervaporation. The invention also includes a method of purifying water with the synthetic membrane by contacting an ionic solution with the hydrophobic polymer layer of the synthetic membrane and removing water from the polymeric membrane support layer of the synthetic membrane by a process of reverse osmosis. The invention also relates to methods of isolating non-polar gases by gas fractionation.
Filtration Films Having Dense Packing of Pores of Uniform Size and Distribution, and Tools and Methods for Their Formation
Porous filters having uniform pore size and close packing density are described, along with methods and apparatus for making the porous filters based on nanopatterning. One method includes applying a polymeric liquid to a mold consisting of an array of posts having a desired pore size and distribution. Solidification of polymeric membrane followed by separation from the mold produces a polymer membrane with a predetermined spaced array of pores. A pre-filter film can also be bonded with the membrane during formation to provide increased mechanical support and filtration of larger particles on the input side of the filter. Other process variants are described, including methods for incorporating additional functionalities to the filter.
SELECTIVE INTERFACIAL MITIGATION OF GRAPHENE DEFECTS
A method for the repair of defects in a graphene or other two-dimensional material through interfacial polymerization.
GRAPHENE PLATELET-BASED POLYMERS AND USES THEREOF
Provided herein are cross-linked graphene platelet polymers, compositions thereof, filtration devices comprising the cross-linked graphene platelet polymers and/or compositions thereof and method is using and making the same.
Lithium extraction composite for recovery of lithium from brines, and process of using said composition
A lithium extraction composite comprising: (i) a porous support and (ii) particles of a lithium-selective sorbent material coated on at least one surface of the support, wherein the support has a planar membrane, fiber (or rod), or tubular shape. A method for extracting and recovering a lithium salt from an aqueous solution by use of the above-described composition is also described, the method comprising (a) flowing the aqueous source solution through a first zone or over a first surface of the lithium extraction composite to result in selective lithium intercalation in the lithium-selective sorbent material in the first zone or first surface; and (b) simultaneously recovering lithium salt extracted in step (a) from said lithium-selective sorbent material by flowing an aqueous stripping solution through a second zone or over a second surface of the lithium extraction composite in which lithium ions from the first zone or first surface diffuse.
