Graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane for gas separation, reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane and method for manufacturing the same

The present invention relates to a technology for manufacturing a nanocomposite membrane comprising a graphene oxide coating layer with a thickness of 1 nm to 50 nm, which is formed on various supports and has nanopores, and a reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane, and applying the membranes to gas separation. The graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane for gas separation of the present invention has excellent gas permeability and selectivity at the same time, and especially, excellent hydrogen gas permeability and hydrogen gas selectivity compared with carbon dioxide, and the reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane has remarkably enhanced hydrogen gas permeability and hydrogen gas selectivity compared with carbon dioxide, and thus the membranes are applicable as a gas separation membrane in an industrial field involving a hydrogen separation process. Furthermore, a graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane for gas separation can be provided, in which strong binding force between a support and a graphene oxide coating layer is induced by modifying surfaces of various supports and thus the graphene oxide coating layer is not easily delaminated.

The present invention provides a novel method to fabricate silica nanostructures on thin polymer films based on silica deposition and self-wrinkling induced by thermal shrinkage. These micro- and nano-scale structures have vastly enlarged the specific area of silica, thus the silica nanomembranes can be used for solid phase extraction of nucleic acids. The inventive silica nanomembranes are suitable for nucleic acid purification and isolation and demonstrated better performance than commercial particles in terms of DNA recovery yield and integrity. In addition, the silica nanomembranes have extremely high nucleic acid capacity due to its significantly enlarged specific surface area of silica. Methods of use and devices comprising the silica nanomembranes are also provided.

A method is provided for preparing a carbon monoxide resistant gold-alloy gas separation membrane system. A palladium layer is provided upon a surface of a tubular porous substrate, wherein the palladium layer has a mean surface roughness (Sa) of less than 2.5 microns, followed by submerging the tubular porous substrate within a solution of chloroauric acid or a salt thereof. A volume of hydrogen peroxide is periodically introduced into the solution while spinning the tubular porous substrate at a set rate and for a time period so as to deposit upon the palladium layer a gold layer of desired uniformity and a desired thickness.

This invention relates to uses of graphene oxide, and in particular graphene oxide on a porous support, and a membrane comprising these materials. This invention also relates to methods of dehydration, which include vapour phase separation and pervaporation. Pervaporation is a method of separating mixtures of liquids using a membrane. Pervaporation consists of two basic steps: permeation of the permeate through the membrane and evaporation of the permeate from the other side of the membrane. Pervaporation is a mild which can be used to separate components which would not survive the comparatively harsh conditions needed for distillation (high temp, and/or low pressure).

WATER RECLAMATION USING GRAPHENE OXIDE FILMS

Systems, devices, and methods are described herein for generating liquid water from water vapor present in the atmosphere through use of selectively permeable films that permit water to pass through but that block other liquids and gases, such as atmospheric gases. The systems, devices, and methods employ condensation techniques in which only the water that is passed through the selectively permeable film is cooled, as compared to other atmospheric water generation systems, which cool water and other gases that enter with the water.

Method of making a hydrogen transport membrane and article

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a hydrogen transport membrane and the composite article itself. More specifically, the invention relates to producing a membrane substrate, wherein the ceramic substrate is coated with a metal oxide slurry, thereby eliminating the need for an activation step prior to plating the ceramic membrane through an electroless plating process. The invention also relates to modifying the pore size and porosity of the substrate by oxidation or reduction of the particles deposited by the metal oxide slurry.
