Composite nanostructures having a crumpled graphene oxide shell
Composite nanostructures having a crumpled graphene oxide shell and a nanoparticle selected from titanium dioxide, silver and magnetite within the shell are disclosed. The nanostructures may be incorporated into a filtration membrane suitable for purifying water for targeted separations and for human consumption.
METAL ORGANIC FRAMEWORK MEMBRANES
Disclosed herein is an ion selective separation membrane including: a metal organic framework layer formed on, in, and/or around a substrate, the metal organic framework having a crystal structure that includes a first surface and a second surface and includes ion transport channels formed between respective pore windows in the first surface and the second surface; first and second electrodes to apply a potential difference across the membrane; wherein the respective pore windows have a pore size that is less than the hydrated diameter of the ion for which the ion selective separation membrane is selective.
Ultra-thin polymer film and porous ultra-thin polymer film
A porous ultra-thin polymer film has a film thickness of 10 nm-1000 nm. A method of producing the porous ultra-thin polymer film includes dissolving two types of mutually-immiscible polymers in a first solvent in an arbitrary proportion to obtain a solution; applying the solution onto a substrate and then removing the first solvent from the solution applied onto the substrate to obtain a phase-separated ultra-thin polymer film that has been phase-separated into a sea-island structure; and immersing the ultra-thin polymer film in a second solvent which is a good solvent for the polymer of the island parts but a poor solvent for a polymer other than the island parts to remove the island parts, thereby obtaining a porous ultra-thin polymer film.
METHODS OF FORMING A BICONTINUOUS INTRAPHASE JAMMED EMULSION GEL AND USES THEREOF
Provided herein is a method of forming a bicontinuous intraphase jammed emulsion gel.
FILTRATION MEMBRANE AND METHODS OF USE AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF
A filtration membrane is provided. It comprises a porous support substrate and a porous active layer on top of the support substrate, wherein the active layer is formed of a network of interconnected, randomly arranged ceramic splats with ceramic particles occupying interstices between the splats, and wherein free spaces between the particles define a network of interconnected pores extending through the thickness of the active layer. There are also provided a method of filtering a feed using the membrane and a method of manufacturing the membrane by suspension plasma spraying.
Forward osmosis draw material
A hydrogel composite draw material for forward osmosis comprising: a porous elastic polymeric foam element including a three-dimensional continuous network of pores interpenetrated with a polymer hydrogel. In use, the hydrogel composite draw material draws a water flux of at least 3.5 L/m.sup.2h.
Self-forming membrane for high flux and selective electrochemistry-based CO.SUB.2 .capture
A low-cost and easy-to-fabricate mixed e.sup. and CO.sub.3.sup.2 conducting membrane for advanced high-flux and selective electrochemical CO.sub.2 separation from flue gas is provided. The membrane includes a CO.sub.3.sup.2-conducting molten carbonate phase and an e.sup.-conducting lithiated Ni-oxide interphase that can be formed in situ during operation. The membrane exhibits a CO.sub.2 flux density greater than 0.8 mL/(minute.Math.cm.sup.2) at 850 C. with a selectivity ranging from about 100 to about 500 and excellent stability for up to about 450 hours. Further, the self-formed interphase Li.sub.0.4Ni.sub.1.6O.sub.2 is highly electron conducting and can provide electrons to the co-reduction of CO.sub.2 and O.sub.2 into CO.sub.3.sup.2. Such a membrane is an alternative to the conventional size-sieving inorganic and dissolution-diffusion organic counterparts for CO.sub.2 capture from flue gas.
Compositions of graphene materials with metal nanostructures and microstructures and methods of making and using including pressure sensors
Composition comprising at least one graphene material and at least one metal. The metal can be in the form of nanoparticles as well as microflakes, including single crystal microflakes. The metal can be intercalated in the graphene sheets. The composition has high conductivity and flexibility. The composition can be made by a one-pot synthesis in which a graphene material precursor is converted to the graphene material, and the metal precursor is converted to the metal. A reducing solvent or dispersant such as NMP can be used. Devices made from the composition include a pressure sensor which has high sensitivity. Two two-dimension materials can be combined to form a hybrid material.
HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE FOR FILTRATION OF LIQUIDS
The present invention provides an intrinsically anti-microbial hollow fiber membrane for filtration of liquids. The membrane comprises a plurality of porous hollow bilayer membrane fibers wherein the liquid enters from outside of the fiber, passing through the porous membrane into the lumen of the fiber and coming out from the hollow ending of the fiber, wherein this configuration provides a liquid outside-in arrangement and retains the filtrate outside. It means that membrane of the invention has built in characteristics to act against microbes in order to provide the use with a safe liquid free from microbes. The outer side or outer wall of the hollow fibers may be configured to become hydrophobic whereas inner side or inner wall of the hollow fiber membrane may be configured to become hydrophilic to enhance the water permeability to a great extent. The hollow fiber membrane may be configured to give it an intrinsic anti-microbial capability. A device containing above said membrane has also been disclosed.
VIRUS REMOVAL MEMBRANE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING VIRUS REMOVAL MEMBRANE
