Implant comprising an expandable section
A method for implanting a non-invasively and post-operatively adjustable penile implant in a penis of a patient, the implant comprising an expandable portion having a hollow portion adapted to receive a fluid, thereby allowing the expandable portion to be adjustable from a collapsed state into an expanded state. The method comprises the steps of: placing a proximal portion of said hollow portion in at least one corpus cavernosum, such that said proximal portion substantially extend on the inside of the male person when implanted in the penis; placing a distal portion of said hollow portion in the at least one corpus cavernosum such that said distal portion substantially extends on the outside of the male person when implanted in the penis, wherein the distal portion is placed with an invagination extending into the hollow portion in the collapsed state, and wherein said invagination is adapted to expand the hollow body in a length direction of the penile implant in the expanded state.
Photo-responsive shape changing polymer composition for colored optical lens
Photo-responsive shape changing polymer compositions including photoinitiators that absorb light in the range about 400 nm to about 700 nm, a cross-linked polymer matrix and a polymerizable composition. Photopolymerization of the polymerizable composition sorbed in the cross-linked polymer matrix results in the shape change which manifests in the change in the refractive properties of the composition. The light dose required to effect the shape change; lock-in dose and the photobleaching dose are determined by the choice of the photoinitiator, electron donor and the hydrogen donor. These compositions are useful in the fabrication of coloured lenses, especially intraocular lenses.
Device for treatment of aneurysm
The present invention relates to a device for treating an aneurysm of a human or mammal patient, wherein the aneurysm may self expand, leading to the aneurysm bursting with high risk for death of the human or mammal patient. The device is provided with an implantable member to be placed in connection with the outside of a blood vessel having the aneurysm, and to exercise a pressure on the outside of the blood vessel having the aneurysm, a measuring device or sensor for measuring or sensing an expansion of the aneurysm, and a monitoring system for monitoring the expansion of the aneurysm based on a signal received from the measuring device or sensor.
LIGHT ADJUSTABLE INTRAOCULAR LENS WITH A MODULABLE ABSORPTION FRONT PROTECTION LAYER
Embodiments of a modulable absorption light adjustable lens (MALAL) comprise a light adjustable lens that is capable of changing its optical properties upon an adjusting irradiation, including a photo-modifiable material; and a modulable absorption front protection layer, including a modulable absorption compound whose absorption properties can be modulated with a modulating stimulus. Other embodiments include a method of adjusting an optical property of a modulable absorption light adjustable lens, the method comprising: reducing an absorption of a modulable absorption compound of a modulable absorption front protection layer of the MALAL by a modulating stimulus, the MALAL having been previously implanted into an eye; and changing an optical property of a light adjustable lens of the MALAL by applying an adjusting irradiation.
Self-accomodating lens and method for controlling a self-accomodating lens
The disclosure relates to a self-accommodating lens, which is formed in particular as contact lens. A plurality of actuators are arranged in a star-shaped manner on the front side of the lens body. The angle to the adjacent lens is determined by detection of a directional radio signal.
System for deploying a capacitive shape memory catheterization device and methods for use therewith
A system for deploying a shape memory catheterization device within a patient, includes a catheter for endovascular insertion of the shape memory catheterization device. A heat source heats the shape memory catheterization device above the transition temperature. A transformation data generator includes a circuit driver for driving a circuit that includes at least one capacitive element of the shape memory catheterization device and a detection circuit for generating transformation data based on a capacitance of the at least one capacitive element, wherein the transformation data indicates a shape transformation of the shape memory catheterization device from a catheterization shape to a transformed shape.
Magnetic sphincter augmentation device for urinary incontinence
A sphincter augmentation device includes a plurality of bodies and a flexible band coupled with the bodies. The bodies define a first circumferential portion of the device and are magnetically biased toward one another. The flexible band defines a second circumferential portion of the device such that the bodies are arranged non-axisymmetrically about a central axis of the device. The device is sized to be positioned around a human urethra so that the bodies and the flexible band bear inwardly against the urethra. The device is configured to transition between a radially expanded state and a radially contracted state by the magnetic bias of the bodies to constrict the urethra.
PROSTHETIC SYSTEM WITH MOTORIZED HYDRAULIC PUMP DESIGNED TO CONTROL THE INFLATION OF AN INFLATABLE ELEMENT
The invention relates to a prosthetic system including; an implanted device including: at least one inflatable element (1) that can be inflated in response to a pressure of a fluid; a tank (2) for the fluid in communication with the inflatable element; a sealed case (3) in which is mounted a motor-driven pump supplied with energy by a wireless energy transfer system, part of which (30) is mounted in the case, this pump being in communication on the one hand with the inflatable element via a one-way discharge obturator and on the other hand with the tank via a one-way suction obturator; a manual command for deflating the inflatable element (1) acting simultaneously on the one-way suction and discharge obturators; the control case (B) integrating another part of the energy transfer system and ensuring the control of the operation of the energy transfer system.
Actuation system and method for orthopedic implants with a rotatable internal magnet
An external magnetic actuator for use in adjusting an implantable medical device having a magnetically actuatable rotatable portion, such as an intramedullary (EVI) lengthening nail is disclosed. The actuator may include a magnet having opposite major surfaces representing opposite poles of the magnet. The magnet may be contained within an actuator body having first and second handles coupled to first and second opposing side walls of the housing. The actuator body may also include one or more projections operable to prevent first and/or second walls of the actuator body from lying flat against an external planar surface. Also provided are various kits and systems that include a disclosed external magnetic actuator and methods for using the disclosed external magnetic actuator.
