Multilayer aromatic polyamide thin-film composite membranes for separation of gas mixtures
A gas separation membrane for selective separation of hydrogen and helium from gas mixtures containing carbon dioxide includes a porous support layer, an aromatic polyamide layer on the porous support layer, and a coating including a glassy polymer formed on the aromatic polyamide layer. A glass transition temperature of the glassy polymer is greater than 50° C. The gas separation membrane may be formed by contacting a solution including the glassy polymer with an aromatic polyamide layer of a composite membrane and drying the solution to form a coating of the glassy polymer on the aromatic polyamide layer. Separating hydrogen or helium from a gas stream including carbon dioxide includes contacting a gas feed stream including carbon dioxide with the gas separation membrane to yield a permeate stream having a concentration of helium or hydrogen that exceeds the concentration of helium or hydrogen, respectively, in the gas feed stream.
CARBON HOLLOW FIBRE MEMBRANE
The present invention relates to a process for the production of asymmetric cellulose hollow fibres and the use of such fibres in the production of asymmetric carbon hollow fibre membranes (CHFMs). In particular, the present invention provides a facile and scalable process for the preparation of asymmetric CHFMs by direct pyrolysis of polymeric precursors without the need for complex pre-pyrolysis treatment steps to prevent pore collapse. The present invention also relates to the use of asymmetric CHFMs prepared according to said process in the separation of hydrogen gas from a mixed gas source, especially in the separation of hydrogen from CO.sub.2 in the steam-methane reforming reaction.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PRE-PURIFICATION OF A FEED AIR STREAM
A system and method of pre-purification of a feed gas stream is provided that is particularly suitable for pre-purification of a feed air stream in cryogenic air separation unit. The disclosed pre-purification systems and methods are configured to remove substantially all of the hydrogen, carbon monoxide, water, and carbon dioxide impurities from a feed air stream and is particularly suitable for use in a high purity or ultra-high purity nitrogen plant. The pre-purification systems and methods preferably employ two or more separate layers of hopcalite catalyst with the successive layers of the hopcalite separated by a zeolite adsorbent layer that removes water and carbon dioxide produced in the hopcalite layers.
SYSTEM AND PROCESS FOR RECOVERING METHANE AND CARBON DIOXIDE FROM BIOGAS AND REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
Various illustrative embodiments of a system and process for recovering high-quality biomethane and carbon dioxide product streams from biogas sources and utilizing or sequestering the product streams are provided. The system and process synergistically yield a biomethane product which meets gas pipeline quality specifications and a carbon dioxide product of a quality and form that allows for its transport and sequestration or utilization and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The system and process result in improved access to gas pipelines for products, an improvement in the carbon intensity rating of the methane fuel, and improvements in generation of credits related to reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases.
COMPRESSED GAS TANK AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A COMPRESSED GAS TANK
The invention relates to a compressed gas storage tank, in particular for a motor vehicle, with a holder that is designed to store a compressed fuel, and with at least one pressure relief valve. Fuel is dischargeable from the holder into environment of the compressed gas tank due to the opening of at least one pressure relief valve. A catalytic converter device of the compressed gas storage tank designed to catalyze an oxidation reaction of fuel originating from the holder with oxygen. The compressed gas storage tank has at least one piezoelectric element to which a pressure can be applied by opening the at least one pressure relief valve Through the pressure, at least one spark can be generated by means of the at least one piezoelectric element. The invention furthermore relates to a method for operating a compressed gas storage tank of said type.
