System for pre-purification of a feed gas stream
A system and method of pre-purification of a feed gas stream is provided that is particularly suitable for pre-purification of a feed air stream in cryogenic air separation unit. The disclosed pre-purification systems and methods are configured to remove substantially all of the hydrogen, carbon monoxide, water, and carbon dioxide impurities from a feed air stream and is particularly suitable for use in a high purity or ultra-high purity nitrogen plant. The pre-purification systems and methods preferably employ two or more separate layers of hopcalite catalyst with the successive layers of the hopcalite separated by a zeolite adsorbent layer that removes water and carbon dioxide produced in the hopcalite layers. Alternatively, the pre-purification systems and methods employ a hopcalite catalyst layer and a noble metal catalyst layer separated by a zeolite adsorbent layer that removes water and carbon dioxide produced in the hopcalite layer.
GAS SEPARATION MEMBRANE USING FURAN-BASED POLYMERS
Disclosed herein is a gas separation membrane comprising a furan-based polymer, an apparatus comprising the gas separation membrane, and a process for separating a mixture of gases using said gas separation membrane. The process comprises contacting one side of a gas separation membrane comprising a furan-based polymer with a mixture of gases having different gas permeances, whereby at least one gas from the mixture of gases permeates preferentially across the gas separation membrane, thereby separating the at least one gas from the mixture of gases.
Catalytic reactor system treatment processes
There are provided methods of treating a catalyst-containing reactor system with a liquid solvent to remove contaminants from the reactor system. An exemplary method includes the steps of: isolating the reactor system to be treated from upstream and downstream equipment; reducing the temperature and pressure of the isolated reactor system by flushing with a hydrogen rich gas; injecting a non-aqueous liquid solvent into the reactor system at an injection point while continuously flowing hydrogen-rich gas through the reactor system; maintaining the solvent in a liquid state while flowing the solvent continuously through the reactor system; and terminating the step of injecting solvent and terminating the continuous flowing of hydrogen-rich gas. The exemplary method is free of the injecting of a carrier gas into the reactor system comprising alkanes selected from the methane, ethane, propane, butane and pentane.
PROCESS FOR SEPARATION OF HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN
Embodiments of the invention are directed to methods, processes, and systems for safely and reliably purifying hydrogen from a gas mixture containing hydrogen and oxygen.
SYSTEM FOR THE REMOVAL OF HYDROGEN/OXYGEN IN A GASEOUS STREAM
According to one embodiment of the present invention there is provided a combiner for the removal of hydrogen/oxygen gas in a gaseous stream, said combiner comprising: a pipe capable of accommodating the flow of a gaseous stream, wherein the pipe is adapted to transmit the gaseous stream to a catalytically active structure (CAS), the CAS having: contact with the substantial majority of the gaseous stream, a housing, and an inlet, said inlet being connected to the pipe, and an outlet, for the removal of the gaseous stream post recombination, and a second pipe connected to the outlet of the CAS for the transmission of the gaseous stream away from the combiner. A second embodiment of the invention sees the CAS housed within an electrochemical cell directly.
High-capacity dispensable getter
High-capacity dispensable moisture and hydrogen getter to be used as sealant and/or to control the level of these substances in electronic or optoelectronic sensitive devices, its use for the hermetic sealing or semi-hermetic sealing of such electronic or optoelectronic sensitive devices and a method to control the level of contaminants within them.
Method of gas separation using metal-organic framework membrane
A membrane including a polymer substrate having pore channels and a metal-organic framework disposed on the polymer substrate. Methods of producing the membrane are described. Methods of separating gases using the membrane are also provided.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR OBTAINING A PROPYLENE PRODUCT
The present invention concerns a method (100) for the production of a propylene product (9) in which a component mixture (2) containing propane, propylene and hydrogen is provided using a propane dehydrogenation (10) to which a reaction feed (1) containing propane and hydrogen is subjected, the component mixture (2) or a part thereof being subjected as a first separation feed to a first membrane separation (40), by means of which a first permeate (3) enriched in hydrogen with respect to the first separation feed and a first retentate (4) depleted in hydrogen with respect to the first separation feed and containing hydrogen, propane and propylene are formed, the first retentate (4) or part thereof being subjected to a second membrane separation (50) as a second separation feed, in which a second permeate (6) containing at least the predominant part of the hydrogen of the second separation feed and a second retentate containing at least the predominant part of the propane and the propylene of the second separation feed are formed, wherein the first membrane separation (40) is carried out using a sweep gas (5) containing propane and the first permeate (3) is obtained as a permeate (3) charged with propane of the sweep gas (5) and/or the second membrane separation (50) is carried out using the sweep gas (5) containing propane and the second permeate (6) is obtained as a permeate (6) charged with propane of the sweep gas (5), and wherein the first permeate (3) charged with propane of the sweep gas (5) and/or the second permeate (3) charged with propane of the sweep gas or one or more parts thereof is used in the formation of the reaction feed (1). A corresponding plant is also the subject of this invention.
COPPER (II)-EXCHANGED SMALL-PORE ZEOLITES FOR IMPROVED ETHYLENE SEPARATION OVER ETHANE
The present invention and embodiments thereof provide a process to separate ethylene products from impurities such as nitrogen, hydrogen, ethane, propane and isobutane without the need for distillation processes.
TAIL GAS UTILIZATION FOR MIXED ALCOHOLS PRODUCTION
It has been discovered that mixed-alcohol production can utilize the waste tail gas stream from the pressure-swing adsorption section of an industrial hydrogen plant. Some variations provide a process for producing mixed alcohols, comprising: obtaining a tail-gas stream from a methane-to-syngas unit (e.g., a steam methane reforming reactor); compressing the tail-gas stream; separating the tail-gas stream into at least a syngas stream, a CO.sub.2-rich stream, and a CH.sub.4-rich stream; introducing the syngas stream into a mixed-alcohol reactor operated at effective alcohol synthesis conditions in the presence of an alcohol-synthesis catalyst, thereby generated mixed alcohols; and purifying the mixed alcohols to generate a mixed-alcohol product. Other variations provide a process for producing clean syngas, comprising: obtaining a tail-gas stream from a methane-to-syngas unit; compressing the tail-gas stream; separating the tail-gas stream into at least a syngas stream, a CO.sub.2-rich stream, and a CH.sub.4-rich stream; and recovering a clean syngas product.
