CARDIAC VALVE PROSTHESIS
It is provided a cardiac valve prosthesis, obtainable by a method comprising the following steps: a) providing human or animal body tissue, b) shaping the body tissue in a shaping process to give the body tissue a shape and size of a cardiac valve, c) fixation and stabilization of the body tissue by a cross-linking agent, thereby preserving the shape given to the body tissue by the shaping process and thus obtaining a cardiac valve prosthesis. In this context, the cross-linking agent comprises at least one compound having a structure according to general formula (I).
BIORESORBABLE STENT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
Provided is a bioresorbable stent including a stent substrate including a bioresorbable polymer and a contrast medium containing an iodine component, coated on the stent substrate. Since the stent according to the present invention is absorbed in and removed from the human body after a predetermined time, it has excellent biodegradability since it has improved radiopacity by iodine contrast medium coating, it has a high radiography contrast and is very efficient even when a procedure is performed with real time radiography, and since it has low foreshortening and high flexibility, radial force, and re-coil, it may be useful for insertion into a blood vessel having a small diameter, an acute occlusive lesion, an imminent occlusive lesion, and the like.
Spinal implant configured for midline insertion and related instruments
The embodiments provide a spinal implant that is configured for midline insertion into a patient's intervertebral disc space. The spinal implant may include structural guidance features to facilitate the angular approach of fixation elements into the apertures. The spinal implant may also be a configured with a tactile or visual feedback response feature to allow the user to know when the fixation elements are fully seated within the apertures.
Apparatus for use in spinal interbody fusion
An expandable interbody fusion device includes superior and inferior endplates that are configured to receive a sequentially inserted stack of expansion members or wafers in interlocking engagement. The expansion members are formed to each have a generally U-shaped rearward facing opening. The superior and inferior endplates have openings through their outer surfaces in at least partial alignment and communication with the rearward facing openings of the expansion members. The inferior endplate has a fully bounded cavity for telescoping receipt of the superior endplate. The inferior endplate also has a fully bounded channel extending through the rear endwall thereof in direct communication with the rearward facing opening of at least one expansion member for the receipt of bone graft material into the device to promote fusion between opposing vertebral bodies of the spine.
METHODS OF FORMING HEAT SET ANNULOPLASTY RINGS
An annuloplasty repair segment for heart valve annulus repair and a method for forming. A multi-stranded cable replaces solid core wire for both the tricuspid and mitral valves which allows for greater deployment flexibility for minimally-invasive surgical (MIS) implant, while still maintaining the required strength and similar tensile properties of solid-core wire. The particular shape of the annuloplasty ring is fixed using a heat setting process including heating the flexible core member to a temperature higher than 500 C. and holding it in a desired heat-set saddle shape for a period of time. The core is then rapidly cooled to impart physical properties such that the flexible core member can be straightened, during implantation, to fit through a tubular access device and regain the heat-set saddle shape after exiting the access device and, when attached to the native heart valve, the flexible core member is strong enough to remodel the native heart valve.
TOTAL KNEE IMPLANT PROSTHESIS ASSEMBLY AND METHOD
A total knee implant prosthesis is disclosed. The total knee implant prosthesis includes a tibial component including a pair of bearing surfaces and a post positioned between the bearing surfaces, and a femoral component configured to rotate relative to the tibial component. The femoral component includes a pair of condyles sized and shaped to articulate on the bearing surfaces and a cam positioned between the pair of condyles. The cam engages the post at a first contact point when the femoral component is at 0 degrees of flexion and engages the post at a second contact point located lateral of the first contact point when the femoral component is at a first degree of flexion greater than 0 degrees. The cam is disengaged from the post when the femoral component is at a second degree of flexion greater than the first degree of flexion.
Orthopedic Device and Polymer Compositions For Making Same
Orthopedic devices are described including polymer compositions used to make the devices. The polymer composition contains a polyoxymethylene polymer in combination with various additives that prevent against agglomerations and spotting even when the composition contains significant amounts of coloring agents and/or waxes. In addition, the polymer composition has reduced formaldehyde emissions and excellent thermal stability properties.
Bone Cage With Helically Arranged Fenestrations
Disclosed herein is a bone cage that includes a shaft extending from a head to a tapered tip and including threads disposed on an external surface of the shaft. The cage also includes a plurality of fenestrations defining a row disposed in at least a first helix along at least a portion of the shaft, each of the plurality of fenestrations extend directly through a natural portion of the thread. The cage also includes a cannula positioned within the shaft and extending from an opening in the head to another opening in the tip. Each of the fenestrations are defined by a wall that extends from the exterior of the shaft to the cannula.
Multi-stranded heat set annuloplasty rings
An annuloplasty repair segment for heart valve annulus repair. In one embodiment a multi-stranded cable replaces solid core wire for both the tricuspid and mitral valves. Cable allows for greater deployment flexibility for minimally-invasive surgical (MIS) implant, while still maintaining the required strength and similar tensile properties of solid-core wire. Stranded cable provides a MIS annuloplasty ring with sufficient flexibility in the x-y plane to allow a surgeon to squeeze the ring into a small incision, such as being able to pass through an 18 Fr or smaller catheter, while maintaining structural rigidity under forces exerted on the implanted ring by the cardiac cycle. The particular shape of the annuloplasty ring is fixed using a heat setting process.
