Photochemical method and device for volatile organic compound pollution control

A method for removing methane and non-methane volatile organic compound concentrations from a gas stream. The method includes exposing the target gas to a halogen gas and a light from a suitable light source having a wavelength sufficient to activate halogen gas to halogen radicals, wherein the halogen radicals react with the VOC in the target gas to provide the target gas with a removed concentration of VOC as well as a device including a reaction chamber for reacting the halogen radicals with the VOC in the target gas.

The present invention is an apparatus and method having dynamically reconfigurable air flow paths for supporting polishing and non-polishing operations. The invention includes a first baghouse section and a second baghouse section coupled to the first baghouse section via conduit. A set of valves is disposed along the conduit to direct air flow through the baghouse apparatus. A controller configures the baghouse apparatus by actuating at least one valve in the set of valves. The controller automatically configures the baghouse apparatus in either a polishing operation or a non-polishing operation based on a predetermined criteria.

Methods of sequestering carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) are provided. Aspects of the methods include contacting an aqueous capture ammonia with a gaseous source of CO.sub.2 under conditions sufficient to produce an aqueous ammonium carbonate. The aqueous ammonium carbonate is then combined with a cation source under conditions sufficient to produce a solid CO.sub.2 sequestering carbonate and an aqueous ammonium salt. The aqueous capture ammonia is then regenerated from the from the aqueous ammonium salt. Also provided are systems configured for carrying out the methods.

Capturing carbon dioxide

Techniques for distributing a liquid in a liquid-gas system include flowing a liquid into a system of nozzles and basin of the liquid-gas contacting system; and operating the nozzles and basin system with a distribution sub-assembly configured to operate the nozzles under a plurality of liquid flow rates and maintaining a consistent spatial liquid distribution of the liquid within the distribution sub-assembly at the plurality of liquid flow rates.

A contaminated gas stream can be passed through an in-line mixing device, positioned in a duct containing the contaminated gas stream, to form a turbulent contaminated gas stream. One or more of the following is true: (a) a width of the in-line mixing device is no more than about 75% of a width of the duct at the position of the in-line mixing device; (b) a height of the in-line mixing device is no more than about 75% of a height of the duct at the position of the in-line mixing device; and (c) a cross-sectional area of the mixing device normal to a direction of gas flow is no more than about 75% of a cross-sectional area of the duct at the position of the in-line mixing device. An additive can be introduced into the contaminated gas stream to cause the removal of the contaminant by a particulate control device.

Beta-hydroxylated tertiary diamines, a process for their synthesis and their use for eliminating acid compounds a gaseous effluent

The invention relates to novel nitrogen compounds belonging to the family of tertiary diamines of general formula (I) below, wherein R is an alkanediyl radical (CH.sub.2)n- with n=2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. ##STR00001##
The compound according to the invention is for example N,N,N,N-(tetramethyl)-1,6-diamino-2,5-hexanediol or N,N,N,N-(tetramethyl)-1,8-diamino-2,7-octanediol. The invention also relates to the method for preparing them and to their use for removing acid compounds contained in a gaseous effluent.

Cement clinker line and a method for operating a cement clinker line

A method for manufacturing clinker includes sintering raw meal in a kiln to clinker, preheating the raw meal (prior to sintering the raw meal) in a preheater using a main flue gas stream from the kiln as heat source, dedusting the main flue gas downstream of the preheater at a temperature below the boiling point of mercury (thereby obtaining mercury loaded dust) and withdrawing a bypass flue gas stream from the kiln. The method is configured to efficiently remove mercury from the manufacturing process if mercury in the bypass flue gas is vaporized by injecting of at least a fraction of the mercury-loaded dust into the bypass flue gas stream. Subsequently, the bypass flue gas is dedusted and cooled down. Thereby, the mercury can be adsorbed by injecting an adsorbent (such as activated charcoal) into the bypass flue gas. With subsequent removal of the adsorbent, mercury is finally removed from the manufacturing process.
