ATMOSPHERIC CARBON DIOXIDE CAPTURE SYSTEM
An atmospheric CO.sub.2 capture system includes a compartment housing a solid CO.sub.2 sorbent, an exchange fluid including a chemical component with selectivity towards CO.sub.2, and an electrochemical cell in fluid communication with the compartment, the system having a cycle including a first state of sorbing CO.sub.2 from incoming air onto the solid CO.sub.2 sorbent until a saturation point is reached; a second state of regenerating the sorbent by flooding the compartment with the exchange fluid to detach CO.sub.2 from the saturated sorbent and bind the detached CO.sub.2 to the chemical component; and a third state of regenerating the chemical component by detaching CO.sub.2 from the chemical component in the electrochemical cell and releasing the CO.sub.2 from the system.
SMART DEHUMIDIFIER
A device is disclosed for extracting water from a fluid medium. The water extracting device comprises a primary channel and a quantity of a light-activated, stimulus responsive polymer (SRP) supported on a carrier within the primary channel. The SRP is capable of absorbing a quantity of water from the medium in a first state and releasing the water in a second state and vice versa. An illumination arrangement allows selective exposure of the SRP within the primary channel to electromagnetic radiation to switch the SRP between the first state and the second state whereby water absorbed by the SRP is released. Also disclosed is a method and device for conducting heat from the primary channel to a secondary channel, adjacent to and in heat conducting relation with the primary channel.
Regulating flow of pressure swing adsorbers
A pressure swing adsorption (PSA) system for purifying a feed gas is provided. The PSA system may have a first adsorber bed and a second adsorber bed, each having a feed port, a product port, and adsorbent material designed to adsorb one or more impurities from the feed gas to produce a product gas. The PSA system may also have a first valve configured to direct flows of the feed gas and the product gas through a network of piping. The PSA system may further have a first orifice configured to regulate a flow rate of gas between the first adsorber bed and the second adsorber bed during the pressure equalization step and a second orifice configured to regulate a flow rate of gas between the first adsorber bed and the second adsorber bed during the purge step.
Air collector with functionalized ion exchange membrane for capturing ambient CO2
An apparatus for capture of CO.sub.2 from the atmosphere comprising an anion exchange material formed in a matrix exposed to a flow of the air.
SULFUR REMOVAL SYSTEM
A sulfur removal system including a first reactor and a second reactor that are located in series to one another each having an adsorbent that includes cobalt and copper on an activated carbon support, a method of desulfurizing a sulfur-containing hydrocarbon stream via the sulfur removal system, and a method of making the adsorbent. Various embodiments of the sulfur removal system, the desulfurizing method, and the method of making the adsorbent is also provided.
LIQUID WATER REMOVAL FROM AN IONIC LIQUID MIXTURE OF A CONTAMINANT REMOVAL SYSTEM
A contaminant removal system includes a scrubber and an ionic liquid regeneration assembly. The scrubber is configured to absorb a contaminant from an air stream into an ionic liquid sorbent in an ionic liquid mixture. The ionic liquid regeneration assembly is configured to desorb the contaminant from the ionic liquid sorbent and remove liquid water from the ionic liquid mixture. The ionic liquid regeneration assembly may include a stripper for desorbing the contaminant and one or more reverse osmosis (RO) or nanofiltration (NF) membranes for removing the liquid water from the ionic liquid mixture.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR SPOUTED BED AND JET FLOW SOLVENT REGENERATION
An apparatus for solvent regeneration in carbon capture processes is provided. The apparatus comprises one or more of: (a) a spouted fluid bed reactor with one or more of: (i) a cylindrical shape; (ii) a removable draft tube; (iii) a removable cone base; (iv) a removable nozzle; (v) at least one steam/vapor inlet and at least one steam/vapor outlet; and (vi) at least one liquid inlet and at least one liquid outlet; or (b) an apparatus comprising (i) a spouted fluid bed reactor with a removable conical base and removable draft tube; (ii) at least one reboiler; (iii) a vapor monitoring system; and (iv) a liquid monitoring system. Also disclosed are processes for the separation of CO.sub.2 from CO.sub.2-containing amine solvents using such apparatus, and methods of using such apparatus.
Monolithic trace-contaminant sorbents fabricated from 3D-printed polymer precursors
High purity carbon sorbent monoliths that are particularly effective for the adsorption and subsequent desorption of trace-contaminants, such as ammonia, are produced by 3D-printing polymer monoliths, carbonizing them, and subsequently activating them to produce an effective amount of at least one type of oxygen species on exposed carbon surfaces. The high purity carbon sorbent monoliths are vacuum-regenerable on a time scale of a few minutes.
CALCINATION OF CO2/H2O DISPLACEMENT DESORPTION SORBENTS
The disclosure generally relates to CCS sorbents, particularly for CO.sub.2/H.sub.2O displacement desorption process. The sorbent includes an aluminum oxide support and an alkali metal salt impregnated on the support. The support can be prepared by creating and extruding a dough to create an extrudate, which is then drying and calcined to form the support. Calcination temperatures can be between about 120 C. and 500 C., preferably about 200 C. to about 400 C. The sorbents demonstrate improved CO.sub.2 loadings and better H.sub.2O/CO.sub.2 ratios, as well as improved stability. Compositions and methods of making are disclosed.
