Solar-thermal water purification by recycling photovoltaic reflection losses
Techniques for solar thermal water purification by recycling photovoltaic reflection losses are provided. In one aspect, a solar thermal water purification system includes: a water purification component for desalinating salt water, the water purification component having multiple stages through which the salt water passes, and condensers in each of the stages; and a photovoltaic component configured to heat the salt water prior to the salt water entering a first stage of the water purification component, wherein desalinated water evaporates and condenses in each of the stages to be collected as pure water. A system using reverse osmosis and a heat-driven water pump is also provided. Methods for water purification are also provided.
Device, system and method for the detection and screening of plastic microparticles
A device, system and method for the detection and screening of plastic microparticles in a sample is disclosed. A nanoporous silicon nitride membrane is used to entrap plastic microparticles contained in the sample. The sample may be a water sample, an air sample, or other liquid or gas sample. The entrapped plastic microparticles are then heated or otherwise processed on the nanoporous silicon nitride membrane. An imaging system observes the nanoporous silicon nitride membrane with the entrapped plastic microparticles to determine the type and quantity of the various plastic microparticles that are entrapped on the membrane.
MEMBRANE WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF
This document describes systems and methods for treating and recovering water from feed solutions using a membrane module that has a plurality of hollow fiber membranes encapsulated in a collection chamber and an expansion chamber that is connected to the outlet of the membrane module.
CONTROL OF THE CONCENTRATION-POLARIZATION LAYER LENGTH IN A MICROCHANNEL-MEMBRANE SYSTEM
A microchannel-membrane device comprises a microchannel extending through at least one electrode, the microchannel having a predetermined depth; an ionic permselective medium, such as a membrane, across the microchannel between the electrodes; and a heater, or array of heaters, embedded below the microchannel on at least one side of the permselective membrane. The heaters can be either prefabricated or dynamically patterned using laser illumination with/without photoconductive coating. The heaters are on the depletion side of the membrane and induce a vortex which limits the growth of the diffusion area. Operation of the heaters allows for controlled positioning of the end of the diffusion area and with it also the position of the preconcentrated molecule plug.
APPARATUS FOR SOLAR-ASSISTED WATER DISTILLATION USING WASTE HEAT OF AIR CONDITIONERS
An apparatus for water purification includes a membrane distillation (MD) cell; an air conditioner; a photovoltaic solar collector (PVSC) cell including a transparent photovoltaic cell configured to generate electricity, an absorber plate configured to absorb solar radiation, and a flow tube configured to receive the fluid; a first heat exchanger; a second heat exchanger; and a fluid source storing a fluid configured to circulate through the apparatus, wherein the fluid circulating in the apparatus carries heat generated by a condenser of the air conditioner to the PVSC cell where the fluid interacts with the PVSC cell to increase a temperature of the fluid to become a heated fluid; and the heated fluid circulates to the hot channel where the heated fluid drives the distillation of water in the MD cell.
Used Oil Recycling and Pretreatment Filtration Assembly
A filtration system suitable for recovering base stock from used lubricating oil and other applications passes feedstock over nano-filtration membranes in a serpentine flow. Pressure boosters installed in the openings separating consecutive stacks serve to restore lost pressure of the feedstock. As pretreatment a knocking non-blinding filter separates particulates from a feedstock by a knocking action that dislodges particulate matter which has come to rest on the screen. Further pretreatment includes a vacuum evaporator for flash evaporation of volatile components from a liquid and effecting the extraction of water and glycol from used engine lubricating oil. The liquid is heated or cooled when flowing over some of the surfaces to adjust for heat lost or acquired during exposure of the liquid surface to a gas or vacuum. Liquid moves on the surface of the discs under centrifugal force or a wiper blade guides the liquid as it moves over the support surface.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYPHENYLSULFONE HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE FOR HUMIDIFYING MEMBRANES
The obtained hollow fiber membrane has high water permeability, and has, when used as a humidifying membrane, a linear relationship between supply humidity and humidification amount. Therefore, the hollow fiber membrane is effectively used, for example, as a humidifying membrane for fuel cells. The method for producing a polyphenylsulfone hollow fiber membrane according to present invention can provide a humidifying membrane that suppresses segregation and crosslinking of hydrophilic polymers associated with the operation of the humidifying membrane, and that prevents the deterioration of humidification performance due to the operation. In addition, the producing method of the present invention can produce a polyphenylsulfone hollow fiber membrane for humidifying membranes, wherein the hollow fiber membrane has high water permeability, and has, when used as a crosslinked humidifying membrane, a linear relationship between water vapor supply humidity and humidification amount.
FILTRATION SYSTEM AND WEIGHING DEVICE THEREFOR
The present invention relates to a filtration system comprising a cabinet, a filtration device having a filtrate or retentate vessel arranged outside the cabinet, and a weighing device that is configured to weigh the filtrate or retentate vessel. The weighing device can be arranged inside an enclosure and the enclosure can be arranged inside the cabinet.
REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER SYSTEM WITH HEAT FORWARD FUNCTION
A reverse osmosis (RO) system is described that is connectable to a dialysis machine and is capable of using heated purified water to clean and disinfect an external connection section or portion disposed between the RO system and the dialysis unit (or any other external heat tolerant device) without forming a closed loop system between both systems before and during a heat forward process. This can be accomplished without the need for direct/indirect or wired/wireless communication with the dialysis unit or the need to introduce a chemical cleaner or process that would require further rinsing after chemical disinfection.
UNDERWATER WATER TREATMENT UNIT AND METHOD FOR CLEANING SAID UNIT
The invention concerns an underwater water treatment unit which has specific cleaning means which are suitable for cleaning filtration membranes in the unconventional conditions associated with use at great or very great depths, as well as a method for cleaning the membrane of the underwater water treatment unit.
