A panicle separation multi-membrane matrix device and method are provided. The particles isolated may comprise noun-scale particles, such extracellular membrane vesicles, having a size of about 50 to about 150 nm. The vesicles are released by many different cell types, and may be efficiently isolated at high yield and purity according to the present methods from various body fluids (e.g., blood, saliva, breast milk, serum, plasma, ascites fluid, etc.). Such isolated exosome preparations may include biomarkers, such as disease biomarkers (diagnostic markers) for various disease (early stage and late stage cancers, neurological disorders (Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease), diabetes, pancreatic diseases, renal failure, infectious diseases (HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis)). The present methods and devices may be used to detect and monitor animals (human, live-stock, companion animal) for infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and other diseases. The methods and devices require minimal sample material (10 ?l), are rapid, economical, yield highly enriched small molecule (e.g., exosoines) preparations, and do not require electricity.

Spacer for a membrane module

A spacer for a membrane module, the spacer comprising: a plurality of first filaments defining a plurality of fluid flow channels, in use the plurality of fluid flow channels being adjacent a membrane of the membrane module; and a plurality of second filaments provided on the plurality of first filaments and extending into the fluid flow channels, the second filaments moveable relative to the first filaments in response to an external stimulus during flow of fluid in the fluid flow channels.

Embodiments of the present invention provide replacement of conventional separate feed spacer mesh with features placed, deposited or integrated on or into either the porous permeate carrier, the inactive side of the membrane sheet, or select portions of the membrane surface.

Blood treatment filter device, priming method, and blood treatment method

To provide a blood treatment filter device capable of efficiently utilizing a blood treatment filter. A blood treatment filter device 20 has a filter sheet 26 through which a specific component among components forming blood is harder to pass than other components and a spacer sheet 27 through which the specific component is easier to pass than through the filter sheet 26. The filter sheet 26 has filter through-holes 39 disposed at intervals. The filter sheet 26 and the spacer sheet 27 are spirally wound in an overlapped state. The filter device 20 has seals 31 sealing both end portions in the longitudinal direction of a wound body 25 formed by the filter sheet 26 and the spacer sheet 27 which are spirally wound in a fluid-tight manner. The outer peripheral surface of the wound body 25 is formed by the filter sheet 26.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR TREATING WASTEWATER VIA FORWARD OSMOSIS
20180354831 · 2018-12-13 ·

Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to methods and systems for treating wastewater via forward osmosis. By way of example, the methods and systems disclosed herein may be used to filter one or more precipitated salts and/or other particles from wastewater generated by power plants such as flue gas wastewater, oil and gas wastewater, and other industrial processes. For example, the methods and systems disclosed herein may be used to filter one or more precipitated salts from a wastewater feed concentrate formed during the forward osmosis process that is recirculated through at least one membrane module to continue the forward osmosis process. Filtering the one or more precipitated salts from the wastewater feed concentrate helps limit clogging of open channel feed spacer(s) of the at least one membrane module.
