Energy may be stored by injecting fluid into a fracture in the earth and producing the fluid back while recovering power and/or desalinating water. The method may be particularly adapted to storage of large amounts of energy such as in grid-scale electric energy systems. The fracture may be formed and treated with resin so as to limit fluid loss and to increase propagation pressure. The fluid may be water containing a dissolved salt or fresh water and a portion or all of the water may be desalinated using pressure in the water when it is produced.

SEA WATER DE-SALINATION METHODS AND APPARATUSES
20220002170 · 2022-01-06 ·

Systems, apparatus and methods for desalination of ocean water using gravity force are described. One example method of desalinating ocean water includes providing a structure having a reverse osmosis membrane affixed to a first end, submerging the structure to a depth in a reservoir of salt water, wherein the depth is a function of a critical pressure of activation of operation of the reverse osmosis membrane, allowing a hydrostatic pressure at the depth to force salt water from the reservoir through the reverse osmosis membrane to cause fresh water to accumulate within a cavity on an inside of the structure; and making the fresh water available for an external use.

APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR USING PERMEATE TO FLUSH A REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTER

An apparatus and a method for using permeate to flush a reverse osmosis filter membrane in the same flow direction as when fluid is being filtered through the membrane is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing having a membrane positioned therein. The housing has an inlet side and an outlet side. The membrane has an interior surface and an exterior surface. The housing has an inlet port located outward of the exterior surface of the membrane, at the inlet side of the housing, and a first outlet port and a second outlet port both located at the outlet side of the housing. The first outlet port is located outward of the exterior surface of the membrane and the second outlet port is located inward of the interior surface of the membrane. A first pump is used to route pressurized, untreated fluid from a fluid source through the membrane to produce permeate. A storage tank holds permeate until needed. A second pump is used to route permeate to a desired function while also routing some permeate at low pressure to the housing to flush the membrane. The flushing occurs when the first pump is turned off. A method of flushing the membrane is also taught.

Reverse Osmosis Prefilter System

A reverse osmosis prefilter system includes a recirculation chamber for accommodating one or more prefilter cartridges. The recirculation chamber is communicably interconnected to an inline water source and an RO filtration membrane. The recirculation chamber has a recirculation outlet and inlet which are communicably interconnected by an offline pump that recirculates prefiltered water repeatedly through the recirculation chamber and prefilter cartridges to remove particulates from the source water prior to delivery to the reverse osmosis filter membrane.

Pumping System and Method of Use Thereof

The disclosure relates to pumping systems that may be used to pump fluids in variety of situations where it is important to maintain fluid flow. The systems include at least two pump assemblies. At least one controller, an inlet, an outlet, and a stand.

Reverse osmosis centrifuge

The reverse osmosis centrifuge converts rotational energy into fluid velocity and conserves the energy placed into the concentrate. As concentrate travels back towards the center of the reverse osmosis centrifuge, the velocity of the fluid is converted into rotational force, thus conserving energy. To accomplish this, the reverse osmosis centrifuge includes a stationary cylindrical housing having a vacuum chamber and a vacuum pump for generating vacuum pressure in the vacuum chamber, a driveshaft coupled to a membrane cylinder rotatable within the stationary cylindrical housing, the membrane cylinder having a plurality of vertical desalination membranes, and an energy recovery turbine. The reverse osmosis centrifuge can be placed on the concentrate or waste stream outlet of a desalination or reverse osmosis facility to increase freshwater production. Through using the methods described above, plant water production can be increased up to 40%, which in turn has a dramatic effect on plant profitability.

CONTINUOUS DIAFILTRATION BY MEANS OF TANK CYCLING
20230211291 · 2023-07-06 ·

Processes and systems for filtering a liquid sample are provided. Batches of a liquid sample can be routed to two or more cycling tanks (e.g., first and second cycling tanks). Upon filling a first cycling tank, a first batch of the liquid sample can be routed to a filtration assembly by a continuous diafiltration process that includes routing produced retentate back to the first cycling tank or to a collection vessel. Upon filling a second cycling tank, a second batch of the liquid sample is routed to the filtration assembly by a continuous diafiltration process that includes routing produced retentate back to the second cycling tank or to the collection vessel. The filling and continuous diafiltration of batches of the liquid sample continues to alternate between the two or more cycling tanks until a total product volume is processed.
