Methods and apparatus are disclosed for mixing proppant and other solids with one or more fracturing fluids to form a fracturing slurry, and for delivering the fracturing slurry to a wellbore. In the example systems as described herein, the proppant is mixed with the fracturing fluids through an assembly that limits the number of pumps that are required to move the relatively abrasive proppant]containing fluids. Additionally, in the example systems, the proppant is mixed within enclosed structures, thereby minimizing the escape of dust and other particulates into the surrounding atmosphere and onto the equipment at the well site.

Both a bypass valve and a dispensing valve of the slurry dispenser may be opened/closed on a programmed basis by the controller to deliver slurry to a container, such as a glass column. Slurry may be intermittently directed into a metering chamber of the slurry dispenser, while the remainder of the slurry being directed into the slurry dispenser may be recirculated back to the horizontal mixer.

The closure blocks a further movement of the delivery plunger so that the delivery plunger is spaced from the front side of the interior of the cartridge at least in some areas and a dead volume remains in the interior of the cartridge when the delivery plunger is pressed against the front side of the interior of the cartridge.
