A patient support apparatus comprising: a frame; a patient receiving surface supported on the frame, the patient supporting surface comprising a central panel section and a side panel section adapted to selectively extend towards to and away from the central panel section for adjusting a width of the patient supporting surface; a board supported on the frame, the board comprising a base comprising a sleeve and an extension member slidably received in the sleeve and a coil spring mounted to the extension member. The extension member is extendable laterally towards to and away from the sleeve for adjusting a width of the base and the coil spring is adapted to counteract an external force applied to the outer end of the extension member. The board comprises a vertical panel that is movable to follow movement of the extension member laterally towards and away from the sleeve.

A patient control unit for controlling functions of a hospital bed includes a housing having a first side that includes a plurality of user inputs to control the functions of the hospital bed. The housing has a second side that includes a dock to secure a handheld phone in place on the housing. A hospital bed has a head-of-bed angle (HOBA) lockout selector that is used to signal a controller to prevent a head section of the bed from being moved below a threshold.

Coupling system comprising: a base member connectable to a patient transport system, and a positioning member releasably couplable to the base member and equipment; the base member comprising: a recessed portion for receiving a positioning member end portion and having an opening defined in a base; and a retractable stop member in the recessed portion and moveable between extended and recessed positions and which is resiliently biased to the extended position; the positioning member comprising: an end portion receivable in the recessed portion and engageable with the retractable stop member when the positioning member is positioned in the recessed portion.

Actuator unit is positioned at the base of bed and is connected with an actuating switch positioned nearby the user to be operable by hands or legs. Immovable supports enable sturdy operations. Horizontal adjusters and vertical adjusters adjust bedding handlers in accordance with the size of bed. Angle adjusters angularly adjust bedding handlers so that bedding handlers are in-line with the mattress in an inclined configuration. Bedding handlers have clamps that hold bedding and when actuated by user through actuating unit, bedding handlers unfolds and straightens bedding on mattress of bed.

A patient support apparatus that comprises a frame and a side rail mounted to the frame. The side rail comprises a side rail body and a pair of arms mounting the side rail body for rotational movement relative to the frame. The pair of arms has a pair of upper pivot connections connected to the side rail body and a pair of lower pivot connections for mounting to the frame. The upper pivot connections engage a timing link.

A patient transport apparatus including a base, an intermediate frame, a support deck with a fowler section, and a deck extension assembly with a head deck section, a brace extending between a mount end and a coupling end, and a pivot coupling attached to the coupling end and supporting the head deck section. A mount operatively attached to the fowler section defines a receiver slidably supporting the brace adjacent to the mount end for movement along a brace axis. A retainer interposed between the mount and the brace selectively retains the brace in one of a plurality of extension positions and is operable between: a retained configuration to prevent movement, and a released configuration to permit movement of the brace between the extension positions. Operation changes from the retained configuration to the released configuration in response to force applied to the head deck section along the brace axis.

A proning device includes a conformable structure that adapts to the shape of a subject, surrounded by a shell that imparts a substantially elliptical cross-sectional shape to an exterior of the device to facilitate rotation of the subject within the device when the device is wrapped around the subject. A low-friction interface may also be provided to further facilitate rotation of the subject. The device advantageously reduces staffing needs for proning a subject while facilitating extended proning and periodic re-orientation of the subject. Also disclosed herein are methods for making and using such a proning device.

A proning device includes a conformable structure that adapts to the shape of a subject, surrounded by a shell that imparts a substantially elliptical cross-sectional shape to an exterior of the device to facilitate rotation of the subject within the device when the device is wrapped around the subject. A low-friction interface may also be provided to further facilitate rotation of the subject. The device advantageously reduces staffing needs for proning a subject while facilitating extended proning and periodic re-orientation of the subject. Also disclosed herein are methods for making and using such a proning device.
