Mixing device for mixing a spray from an injector into a gas and system comprising same
A mixing device includes a mixing cavity having a partially open wall and a closed wall. In certain examples, the partially open wall and the closed wall are two separately formed pieces. A downstream side of the mixing device is shaped so as to define a helicoidal groove for circumferentially guiding gas from an outlet opening of the mixing cavity in a downstream direction. An injector sprays reactant into the mixing cavity.
Vehicle exhaust system mixer with flexible doser mount
A component for a mixer of a vehicle exhaust system, according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a doser mount comprising a curved body having a center boss with a doser opening defining a doser axis. The curved body includes at least a first mating surface configured to receive a first mixer shell defined by a first dimension and a second mating surface configured to receive a second mixer shell defined by a second dimension different than the first dimension.
SYSTEM FOR MIXING A LIQUID SPRAY INTO A GASEOUS FLOW AND EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT DEVICE COMPRISING SAME
A spray/gas mixer includes a main body having a circumferential wall defining an inlet opening at one end and an outlet opening at another end; a divider baffle within the main body; a swirl duct having a first end adjacent to the wall and a second end extending to the divider baffle; an injector orifice at the first end of the swirl duct; a swirl promoting means; and a restrictor. The swirl promoting means is arranged between the divider baffle and the restrictor. Gas passing through the swirl promoting means is swirled around the first longitudinal axis (A) before passing through the restrictor. The restrictor is disposed between the swirl promoting means and the second end, forcing gas reaching it from an upstream side away from a peripheral region of the interior towards a center axis of the main body.
SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION WITH INTEGRATED DECOMPOSITION CHAMBER WITH EXHAUST FLOW SWIRL GENERATING DESIGN
A selective catalytic reduction including a decomposition section including an intake chamber, with a swirl generating plate disposed in an internal volume of the intake chamber. The swirl generating plate includes a curved sidewall, a first end defining an opening, and a second end. The curved sidewall is oriented substantially normal to the direction of an intake flow of exhaust gas and a convex surface of the curved sidewall is oriented to face the direction of the intake flow. The swirl generating plate is configured to divide the intake flow into a first flow portion flowing through the opening, a second and a third flow portion which are directed substantially normal to the direction of intake flow and the flow direction of the first flow portion, and in opposite directions to each other towards a backwall of the intake chamber so as to create opposing swirls.
COUNTER-FLOW REACTANT MIXING FOR EXHAUST GAS AFTERTREATMENT
A mixer and a method therein, including feeding a rotating flow of exhaust gas in a mixing pipe towards a turning end of a mixing chamber; dosing reactant by a doser against the rotating flow around a centreline of the mixing pipe; maintaining a guide around the doser such that a front face of the guide faces the rotating flow, and the guide defines a central opening surrounding the doser; guiding a side flow out of the rotating flow to a carrier flow around the doser via the central opening; and inhibiting by the guide turbulence from being transferred from the side flow to the carrier flow.
Mixer for a vehicle exhaust system
A mixer for a vehicle exhaust system includes an upstream baffle with at least one inlet opening configured to receive engine exhaust gas, a downstream baffle with at least one outlet opening configured to conduct engine exhaust gases to a downstream exhaust component, and an outer peripheral wall surrounding the upstream and downstream baffles and defining a mixer central axis. An intermediate plate is positioned between the upstream and downstream baffles to block direct flow from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. The intermediate plate initiates a rotational flow path that directs exhaust gases exiting the inlet opening through a rotation of more than 360 degrees about the mixer central axis before exiting the outlet opening.
Fluid mixing element
The fluid mixing element in accordance with this invention forms a first internal flow channel whose starting end opens on an end surface of one end part and whose terminal end opens on an end surface of the other end part and a second internal flow channel whose starting end opens on a side peripheral surface of a middle part and whose terminal end opens on an end surface of the other end part. It is possible for the fluid mixing element to securely mix a first fluid flowing in a main flow channel with a second fluid flowing in a sub-flow channel by the use of a pipe with a short length with a simple arrangement.
Exhaust aftertreatment system having mixer assembly
An exhaust aftertreatment system may include an exhaust gas passageway and a mixer assembly. The exhaust gas passageway may receive exhaust gas output from a combustion engine. The mixer assembly may be disposed along the exhaust gas passageway and may receive the exhaust gas. The mixer assembly may include a mixer housing, a mixing bowl and an injector housing. The mixing bowl may be disposed within the mixer housing and may include an outer diametrical surface that engages an inner diametrical surface of a wall of the mixer housing. The injector housing may extend through the wall and into an aperture in the mixing bowl. The aperture may define a flow path through which at least a majority of the exhaust gas entering the mixer assembly flows. The mixing bowl may include an upstream end portion having contours directing the exhaust gas toward the injector housing.
DOSING AND MIXING ARRANGEMENT FOR USE IN EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT
Dosing and mixing exhaust gas includes directing exhaust gas towards a periphery of a mixing tube that is configured to direct the exhaust gas to flow around and through the mixing tube to effectively mix and dose exhaust gas within a relatively small area. Some mixing tubes include a slotted region and a non-slotted region. Some mixing tubes include a louvered region and a non-louvered region. Some mixing tubes are offset within a mixing region of a housing.
Apparatus for facilitating reducant decomposition and mixing
According to one embodiment, an apparatus (50) for mounting to an inner wall (33) of an exhaust tube (32) includes a tube engagement surface (52) and an exhaust engagement surface (54A). The tube engagement surface comprises a convex surface of a constant first radius of curvature about a first axis. The exhaust engagement surface is adjacent the tube engagement surface, and includes a concave surface of a second radius of curvature about a second axis generally perpendicular to the first axis.
