Dual Component Systems for Addition of Pigment Dispersions
20220235236 · 2022-07-28 ·

Apparatus, systems and methods that add pigment/colorant to a two-part reactive resin coating formulation without deleteriously affecting the stoichiometric ratio of resin-to-hardener in the two-part reactive resin coating formulation (2K coating). Two-component apparatus and systems are provided that include a first compartment having a pigmented resinous composition and a second compartment having a hardener composition. The pigmented resinous and hardener compositions are discharged from the two-component apparatus/systems in a mixed or unmixed state to render a dual pigmented resin-hardener composition having a stoichiometric ratio of resin-to-hardener substantially the same as that of the 2K coating, such that when mixed therewith, the dual pigmented resin-hardener composition avoids altering the stoichiometric ratio of resin-to-hardener of the 2K coating.

Systems for automated production, application and evaluation of coating compositions

Systems for producing, applying and evaluating coating compositions are disclosed. An automatic color matching system includes an automatic coating component dispenser, a container, a mixer for mixing the components of the coating composition and a solvent, an automatic pressurization station to apply pressure to the mixed coating composition, and a robotic arm to transport the container to and from the mixer. A coating composition dispensing system includes a computer to provide a target formulation for a coating composition, an automated component dispenser containing the components of the coating composition, a container positionable adjacent to the component dispenser to receive the components of the coating composition, and an automated component sensor to measure the amounts of each of the components dispensed into the container. The computer is programmed to store data corresponding to the measured amounts of each of the components, and amounts of components contained in the coating compositions may be monitored, along with processing parameters when the coating compositions are applied to various substrates. The characteristics of a produced sample coating may be compared with the characteristics of a target or reference coating to determine if they are sufficiently matched.

A method for operating a mixing apparatus of a manufacturing plant comprises supplying multiple powdered products to the mixing apparatus. An inlet mass flow rate of the multiple powdered products into the mixing apparatus and a weight of the multiple powdered products in the mixing apparatus are measured. The multiple powdered products in the mixing apparatus are mixed to form a mixed product. The weight of the multiple powdered products in the mixing apparatus and an outlet mass flow rate of the mixed product from the mixing apparatus are predicted based on the measured inlet mass flow of the multiple powdered products. The predicted outlet mass flow rate of the mixed product from the mixing apparatus is corrected based on the measured weight of the multiple powdered products in the mixing apparatus. The mixed product is processed into final products
