Apparatus (20) for positioning the lower limb of a patient (500) during operation, in particular for hip replacement operations with anterior approach, comprising: a traction arm (30) with at least a distal portion (34, 36) defining a traction axis (x); a support framework (40) coupled to said traction arm (30) so as to allow the adjustment of the position of one of its distal ends (32); a coupling (60) constrained to said traction arm (30) and arranged to be associated to the distal end of the lower limb of the patient (500); at least a first actuator (34) which defines with its action a relative movement of the coupling (60) with respect to the traction arm (30), at least a component of said relative movement being parallel to the traction axis (x).

A surgical leg positioner capable of bending the knee in varus or valgus while simultaneously distracting the tibia from the femur, the leg positioner having a thigh clamp module, a swing arm module connected to the thigh clamp module in a manner that offsets a joint axis laterally to the side of the knee of the patient so as not to damage the opposite compartment of the knee when bent in varus or valgus, and a rail lock assembly to lock the knee in varus or valgus. The swing arm module also distracts the knee simultaneously when the knee is bent in varus or valgus. The swing arm module also permits flexion and extension of the knee at the knee's natural flexion-extension axis. The surgical leg positioner also utilizes a thigh brace that properly aligns the leg on the surgical leg positioner.

The device has a carrier assembly and a first arm assembly attached to the carrier assembly, the first arm assembly configured to hold a first bone fracture fragment. The device also has a second arm assembly attached to the carrier assembly, the second arm assembly configured to hold a second bone fracture fragment. The device further has an actuator assembly configured to adjust the second arm assembly, and an operating assembly configured to control an adjustment of the second arm assembly via the actuator assembly. The operating assembly is a manually operatable operating assembly.

When activated the tension adjustment device moves down the boom structure and incrementally adjusts the tension in a traction rope. The boom structure attaches to a bracket assembly that mounts onto the short end of a surgical table.

A hip distractor includes a pair of distractor members and a support configured to be fastened to a surgical table. The support includes at least two mounts for coupling to a pair of joints that couple the distractor members to the support. Another hip distractor includes a pair of distractor assemblies that are configured to apply a distraction load to a patient. Each of the assemblies includes a joint for coupling the corresponding assembly to a surgical table. The joint permits vertical and horizontal angular adjustment of the corresponding assembly. A method of distracting a hip includes coupling a patient's legs to a pair of distractor assemblies and simultaneously adjusting a vertical angle and a horizontal angle of at least one of the distractor assemblies.
