A large lightweight molded coffin comprises a large pulp molded outer shell lined with a reinforcing spacer material such as single faced Re-board, a honeycomb structure or a molded spacer material conforming to and adhering to said shell and an inner shell made of molded pulp or a paper based material. A method for manufacturing such a lightweight coffin involves pressing slurried pulp between a first male mold half covered with elastomeric material and a second female mold half, to form the molded pulp shell, and gluing the reinforcing spacer material to the interior of said outer molded pulp shell and the inner shell.

A method which allows creation of an ornamental urn from an object such as horns, antlers, rocks, or the like. The method generally includes steps which form an ornamental urn adapted to resemble an object. The ornamental urn may include an access port having a funnel portion leading to an inner cavity adapted to store particulate materials, such as cremated remains. A plug, which may include a burr edge, is also provided to close the access port. The urn is fabricated by coating the object in a first coating to create an object mold, forming a second coating around the object mold to create an outer casing, and uniformly distributing a casting material along the inner walls of the object mold. After the casting material has cured, the ornamental urn may be removed from the object mold and finished to closely resemble the original object.

A lid for a casket includes a folded corrugated structure, a top plank, and side planks. The folded corrugated structure has a top panel having a length and width, a first side panel foldably attached to the top panel along a first long edge, a second side panel foldably attached to the top panel along a second long edge. The top plank is affixed to the top panel and extends a majority of the length and width of the top panel. One side plank is affixed to the first side panel, and extends a majority of a length of the first side panel. Another side plank is affixed to the second side panel, and extends a majority of a length of the second side panel. A cardboard casket includes a top piece and a bottom piece. The top piece is formed by making a single press die cut in a reinforced core cardboard panel, including cutting the reinforced core cardboard panel to form the top piece and forming seams in the top piece. The bottom piece is formed by making another single press die cut in another reinforced core cardboard panel, including cutting the other reinforced core cardboard panel to form the bottom piece and forming seams in the bottom piece. Cutting the top and bottom pieces includes cutting through a first layer, a reinforced core, and a second layer of the reinforced core cardboard panels. Forming seams in the top and bottom pieces includes deforming the first layer in the seams, deforming a majority of the reinforced core in the seams, and leaving the second layer in the seam uncut.
