The invention provides a catalyst and a method for making the catalyst. The catalyst comprises a porous carbon composite impregnated with a salt. The catalyst comprises a porous carbon composite impregnated with a salt.
Catalytically enhanced compositions for efficient removal of contaminants in flue gas streams
A sorbent composition that is useful for injection into a flue gas stream of a coal burning furnace to efficiently remove mercury from the flue gas stream. The sorbent composition may include a sorbent with an associated ancillary catalyst component that is a catalytic metal, a precursor to a catalytic metal, a catalytic metal compound or a precursor to a catalytic metal compound. Alternatively, a catalytic metal or metal compound, or their precursors, may be admixed with the coal feedstock prior to or during combustion in the furnace, or may be independently injected into a flue gas stream. A catalytic promoter may also be used to enhance the performance of the catalytic metal or metal compound.
CATALYST FOR HYDROGENATION OF CARBONYL COMPOUND AND ALCOHOL PRODUCTION METHOD
Provided is a catalyst including a metal component including a first component that is rhenium and one or more second components selected from the group consisting of silicon, gallium, germanium, and indium and a carrier on which the metal component is supported, the carrier including an oxide of a metal belonging to Group 4 of the periodic table. Also provided is an alcohol production method in which a carbonyl compound is treated using the above catalyst. It is possible to produce an alcohol by a hydrogenation reaction of a carbonyl compound with high selectivity and high efficiency while reducing side reactions.

Safe aromatics
A method for reducing the mutagenicity of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAC's) having one or more bay regions which involves alkylating the PAC's with an alkylating agent in the presence of a catalyst to lower the mutagenicity down to as much as about 0.1. The resulting alkylated polycyclic aromatic compounds retain their physical and chemical properties for safe industrial use including as rubber processing oils, inks, etc.

Process for preparation of highly coordinated sulfated mixed metal oxide catalyst having high crushing strength
The present invention provides a process of preparing a high coordination sulfated mixed metal oxide catalyst. The process comprises mixing specific ratios of alumina and zirconia mixtures at specific particle size limits which do not exceed 37 μm, in presence of a combination of α-amino acids i.e., non-polar side chains and basic side chains having molecular weight less than 250, nitric acid (HNO.sub.3) and sulfuric acid (H.sub.2SO.sub.4) at a pH range of 1.5 to 3.8 at temperatures below 30° C. The catalysts have a high conversion towards hydrocarbon isomerization reaction while concurrently having crushing strength in range of 2.0 daN and 5.0 daN, allowing for efficient commercial application.
Single threaded composite fibers and yarns for the degradation of and protection against toxic chemicals and biological agents
The present invention relates to single thread composite fibers comprising at least one binder and at least one active catalyst for the capture and degradation of chemical threats such as chemical warfare agents (CWA), biological warfare agents, and toxic industrial chemicals (TIC) and a method for producing the same. The invention fibers are applicable to the fields of protective garments, filtration materials, and decontamination materials.
