System and method for detecting and rectifying vision for individuals with imprecise focal points
Computer-implemented system and method that allows for the rehabilitation of individuals with strabismus by leveraging commercially available VR headset technology. Eye tracking capabilities and external cameras of existing VR headsets, enables the system and method to first gather the image that the dominant, unaffected eye is focused on (FIG. 1). Then, given where the strabismus unaffected eye's gaze falls on its screen, the system and method will take the image and identify where that point lies on the strabismus affected eye's screen. This point is the ideal gaze point of the strabismus affected eye. The software solution disclosed herein will then warp the strabismus affected eye's screen so that this new gaze will line up with the unaffected eye's gaze.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING DIPLOPIA AND CONVERGENCE INSUFFICIENCY DISORDER
A method of treating diplopia or convergence insufficiency disorder in a patient; it includes providing a patient having a condition of diplopia or convergence insufficiency disorder with an image pair configured to present a first image to a first weaker eye of the patient and a second image to a second dominant eye of the patient; obtaining performance information of the patient when the patient performs a task requiring the perceiving of at least the information content of the first image; and adjusting, based on the performance information, the at least one image parameter such that the difference in perceptibility of the information content of the first image and the information content of the second image is reduced.
Screening apparatus and method
An apparatus for screening, treatment, monitoring and/or assessment of visual impairments, comprising electronic means for simultaneously applying two separate and unrelated processing methods to images presented to a patient's eyes: a first processing method being applied to an non-amblyopic eye (the eye with the better vision), and a second processing method being applied to an amblyopic eye (the weaker eye, or the impaired eye). A method for screening, treatment, monitoring and/or assessment of visual impairments, comprising: a. defining a starting point, wherein differences between a patient's eyes are completely, or as closely as practically possible, corrected, to enable two identical or similar images to be transferred to the brain from the patient's eyes; b. defining an ending point, wherein there is no correction applied to any of the patient's eyes; c. defining a screening, treatment, monitoring and/or assessment plan, for initially applying correction to images according to the starting point, then gradually reducing the correction, at a controlled and predetermined rate, towards the ending point; and d. applying the plan to images presented to the patient's eyes, while monitoring patient's performance.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING VIRTUAL REALITY-BASED EYE MOVEMENT EXERCISE AND VISUAL PERCEPTION TRAINING
The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for providing virtual reality-based eye movement exercise and visual perception training, wherein a dichoptic presentation is provided in consideration of the deviation of a user's eyeball so as to prevent additional damage to stereoscopic vision due to suppression, and is provided by adjusting the degree of difficulty by changing the locations of visual stimuli on the basis of the level of deviation and training capability of the user, thus making it possible for the user to not only receive training suitable for the user's condition, but also simultaneously undergo visual perception training including eye exercise (movement) training and stereoscopic perception recognition.
METHOD FOR MODIFYING AT LEAST ONE FRAME VIDEO OF A DIGITAL VIDEO STREAM TO BE DISPLAYED ON A DISPLAYING AREA AND RELATED SYSTEM
The present invention relates to a method for modifying at least one video frame of a digital video stream to be displayed on a display area. Each correction scheme has one or more specific digital filters based on visual defects perceived by a person with respect to a video frame portion, is configured when predetermined conditions are met and reconfigured whenever the origin position of an eye reference system associated with a respective eye is different from the position of the same origin in said predetermined conditions and/or the orientation of said eye reference system is different from the orientation of the same eye reference system in said predetermined conditions. The generation of a multiview digital video stream, subsequent to the application of the first correction scheme and/or the second correction scheme, and the displaying of said digital video stream by a multiview stereoscopic or stereoscopic video system allow to the two eyes of a person to observe a respective succession of video frames, wherein the content of the video frames of each sequence of video frames has been modified on the basis of visual defects of a respective eye of said subject suffering from a degenerative disease of the retina, so that said subject has a visual perception, in binocular vision, improved or corrected.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING AMBLYOPIA
Disclosed are methods and devices suitable for the dichoptic treatment of amblyopia, that in some embodiments comprise concurrently dichoptically displaying two different variants of a received image on a display screen so that each one of the two different variants is visible to only one eye of a subject, an amblyopic-eye image to the amblyopic-eye of a subject and a sighting-eye image to the sighting-eye of a subject, wherein prior to displaying a sighting-eye image, preparing the sighting-eye image for display from a received image by degrading at least a portion of the received image to yield the sighting-eye image having a degraded area which location is determined without reference to a determined gaze direction of a sighting-eye and/or of an amblyopic-eye of a subject.
Vision-based diagnosis and treatment
Devices and methods are provided herein for aiding in the early diagnosis and remediation of conditions that range from unpleasant to disabling. Images are presented to viewers in an assembly that also eye-tracks their eyes during that process and executes software to identify visual signatures of conditions in the responses of the eyes. Also, responsive treatment for a thus-identified presentation of the condition can be effected in real time providing the patient with both a cause-and-effect perception of the presentation of the condition and means for correcting related ocular behaviors right when they occur.
Miniaturised instrument for simulating simultaneous vision by generating masks
A miniaturised instrument for simulating simultaneous vision by generating masks is provided with a single image-forming optical channel. The instrument comprises: a mask-generating element (EGM) which generates at least two complementary masks, with a temporal frequency of alternation such that when one partially blocks the incident light, the other allows the incident light to partially pass, and vice-versa; an adjustable lens (LA) of variable optical power which generates, with said frequency of alternation, at least two different optical powers corresponding to at least two observation distances. The EGM and the LA are located in a single optical channel via which the incident light circulates, such that each mask of the EGM is temporally synchronised with a power of the LA. The combination of all the masks and optical powers produces, via high-speed temporal fusion, a pupil pattern wherein at least two optical powers corresponding to at least two observation distances are combined.
Vision measurement and training system and method of operation thereof
One aspect of the disclosure provides a binocular viewing system. In one embodiment, the binocular viewing system includes a binocular viewer and a computer. The binocular viewer has left and right display screens and a variable focal depth optical subsystem located in an optical path between and separate from the display screens and a user when the user uses the binocular viewer. The computer is configured to provide control signals to the binocular viewer. The control signals are operable to place images on the left and right display screens and vary a focal depth of the variable focal depth optical subsystem. The images include a plurality of objects controlled by the variable focal depth optical subsystem to make at least one of the plurality of objects appear closer to the user and at least one of another of said plurality of objects appear farther away from the user.
Vision-based diagnosis and treatment
Devices and methods are provided herein for aiding in the diagnosis of and response to conditions ranging from unpleasant to disabling. Images are presented to viewers and eye-tracking of their eyes during that process along with software analysis non-subjectively identify and quantify complex visual signatures formerly hidden in the responses of the eyes. This allows caregivers, when presenting these images to people to be evaluated for a condition, to identify, again with eye-tracking and software analysis, those signatures indicative of a presence or an absence of the condition. An associated remediative response provides treatment applicable to a real-time environment.
